What I'm suggesting here is a political leap of faith.

You're absolutely right to say we would be voting for candidates we know little about.

We also agree about the current insanity in US politics.

What I'm trying to say is by continuing to "choose" between Republican OR Democrat we are proving our commitment to that very insanity.

And NOTHING of substance will change.

I have a met at least one independent candidate and I was not impressed. I do not agree anyone is preferable to what we now have. I have seen how that philosophy works out and it's not good. Congressman that go to Washington with no political savvy and a desire to pursue their own agenda are just plain destroyed by the system. We need good intelligent people who are not committed to a corrupt system.

they have such a big number, but they need to raise the retirement age causing the unions to strike. And looking at other EU's, riots may not be long in coming.

This system is destroying America.

Republicans AND Democrats are wholly owned subsidiaries of Wall Street and the Pentagon.

Einstein defined insanity as repeating the same mistake and expecting a different outcome. "Choosing" between a Republican OR Democrat is a "Game Over" kind of mistake.

Einstein and Bertrand Russell also thought eternal war was a terminal mistake:

"(S)hall we put an end to the human race; or shall mankind renounce war?"

As I see it, the status quo is Wall Street, the Pentagon, the Republicans AND Democrats getting rich from endless war and eternal debt with the extinction of humanity seen as a terminal externality.

The low hanging fruit is Republican AND Democrat.
