"In its most extreme forms, Social Darwinism has been used to justify eugenics programs aimed at weeding "undesirable" genes from the population; such programs were sometimes accompanied by sterilization laws directed against "unfit" individuals. The American eugenics movement was relatively popular between about 1910-1930, during which 24 states passed sterilization laws and Congress passed a law restricting immigration from certain areas deemed to be unfit. Social Darwinist ideas, though in different forms, were also applied by the Nazi party in Germany to justify their eugenics programs.

Social Darwinism

Whenever a lefty makes a claim always assume the exact opposite is true. In this case, a fascist in another thread has declared that conservatives are bringing back social darwinism.

Hmmm, thought I, that's a new one. Let me look into this...

And sure enough, it's a darling ideology of the left.

Just as their claim that they are particularly attached to the concept of separation of church and state is hiding the fact that they think the state should supplant the church and forbid people from adhering to their faith, the claim that social darwinism is a right wing ideology is hiding the fact that it really is a pet of the left.

To liberals social darwinism means that ugly men don't get laid by beautiful women so there needs to be a law to fix it.

Lol...it also means that starving children in poor countries are best served by the slaughter of children.

somebody give ali a whack, her needle is stuck and she's skipping again.

Have you EVER cracked a history book?

no, ali, i know nothing but what i read on messageboards.

The GOP is practicing darwinism. Survival of the fittest. Every man for himself. The strong survive, the weak get eaten. No government involvement. Free markets. Let the chips fall where they may. This they say is the way society should work.

What did Boeher say when asked about the lost jobs his cuts would cause? So be it?

What did the crowd cheer in the GOP debate about someone who was uninsured? Let them die?

You don't know what you are talking about sweety.

No, it's not. It's a progressive ideology. "The earth can't support this many people, so eliminate the people." "Imperfect people have no value, eliminate them." "Unborn babies will be criminals, kill them".

PS..find a conservative who has ever said "let them die."

See, progressive fascists equate eliminating entitlements as "killing" because if entitlements are eliminated, they won't do anything to serve the population of people who will need to be helped.

So they are saying WE'RE progressive darwinists to hide the fact that they are the ones who believe in letting people die.

Social Darwinism when discussed in the context of American politics, is hardly a value of the left.
Frankly I'm rather surprised that CONZ would bring out a giant club with which to beat them with, but oh well.

First off, "social darwinism" is just a euphamism for "survival of the fittest."
Which itself is an INCORRECT interpretation of Darwin's theories, which state that the species most adept at adapting to CHANGE survives, not the one with the biggest muscles or prettiest plumage.

Look at the tax break argument. Liberals would like to raise taxes. But conservatives counter with....
"You should not punish success"
Now if that's not an outright embrace of "survival of the fittest" I don't know what is.

Listen to the tea party.
Ticked off about the bailouts that rewarded dismal failure.

Listen to the conservative arguments about welfare and the social safety net.
They certainly aren't for taking from the rich and giving to the poor, are they?
Nope...winner take all is how they roll.

The thing is, people are STRONGER when they band together. That's the STORY OF CIVILIZATION!
You think rugged individualists built the pyramids?

Almost EVERY GREAT step taken by human civilization has been possible due to us WORKING TOGETHER.
You think rugged individualists built the pyramids? Or put a man on the moon?
Nonsense....working TOGETHER does.

Conservatives seek to separate people and keep them from working together to make things better. Hence their stance against unions.

In short, CONZ embrace the golden rule...

"Whoever has the gold, makes the rules"

No, conz don't. It's a hallmark of the left, just as eugenics is..and eugenics is the ultimate, extremist, example of social darwinism.

Social Darwinism is the derogatory term for the blind philosophy that anyone, no matter who they are or the circumstances of their birth, given sufficient determination, can achieve wealth in America. The term is written on the grave marker for the American dream. American drive and determination can do wondrous things but there is a limit to how many locked doors to success a person can kick open in a lifetime.

Survival of the fittest is the best way to ensure survival. It is nature's way of weeding out the weak. Those who cannot change don't survive. Which means that the buggy whip maker and typewriter repairman better adapt or starve in the streets.

Nature's way is cold and chaotic and based as much on luck and location as predator vs. prey, that's really the dynamic at work in nature it's also the reason we invented civilization. Defending this Predator vs. Prey dynamic is to accept that the poor exist to be preyed upon and denying the very basis of having a society in the first place.

Social Darwinism is a fools' theory.

In order to believe it one would have to pretend that men own nothing, save nothing, and pass nothing down to their offspring but their genes.

Its appeal to some is its apparent scientifc simplicty.

Of course, one would also have to not understand Darwinism to think that, but let's face it -- there's a lot of people who don't know shit about shinola.

It's a logical fallacy.

However, one of your crowd stated it was a conservative ideology. Hence this thread, to eddicate the less enlightened left.

Really? What is that limit and where is set at? We've made it harder to become successful in this country, Occupied but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Despite attempts to "level" the playing field so unexceptional people get as many goodies as exceptional people...people with drive and determination can still succeed here.
