I'm not arguing over semantics. I am using the legal terminology because it is IMPORTANT.

Were he merely found innocent he would still be potentially liable for a wrongful death lawsuit.

No one is ever "found innocent" in an American courtroom. The only possible verdicts are GUILTY or NOT GUILTY in a criminal trial or LIABLE or NOT LIABLE in a civil trial.
