Should Smoking be Banned in Businesses?

I'd support a smoking and non-smoking sections.

But growing up in Vegas, I remember coughing my lungs out as a kid when my family went to any buffet or out to eat at all.

Non smoking sections don't do jack. The smoke from the smoking sections wafts over and ruins your meal. Over here now, most restaurants and pubs have a no smoking policy. You want to smoke, you eat outside in the cold.

No matter how many times you repeat it, that is still a lie!

Where is the lie?

Smoking is a health problem for employees. Leave your guns and sigs at home, I do...

Smoking is UP in New York, in spite of efforts to kill it's use.

By JONATHAN LEMIRE Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) -- For the first time in years, more than 1 million New Yorkers are smoking, according to data released Monday, marking a disturbing rise of tobacco use in the city that pioneered a number of anti-smoking initiatives that were emulated nationally.

Sixteen percent of adult New Yorkers smoked in 2013, up from 14 percent in 2010, which was the city's lowest recorded rate, according to the findings released by New York City's Department of Health.

Nonsense.

There's no 'right' to smoke.

Of course there is, it is a perfectly legal activity. What compelling government interest is there in banning it on private property or outside?

Workplace safety, although if you get outside far enough the only thing to worry about is fire. I was in a huge park in CA a few years ago, and had to chew on cigar instead of smoking it. It was a no-smoking park. Oh well, I smoked at home by the pool, and I survived...

Your car puts out more pollutants and stirs more particulates into the air than your smoking ever will. It's a choice to work in, or go in a smoking establishment. Smoking bans are nothing but another way to deny liberty and exert control.
We don't allow cars to run inside businesses either, you know.

Enjoy it while you can......smoking is a declining vice

Restaurants casinos and bars should have the freedom to allow smoking sections or not. People should have the freedom to eat in those restaurants. Freedoms are what we are about.

What about the freedom to breathe?

It ain't about the "rights" of the business owner --- it's about the rights of the breather.

Duh?

The people can choose to go to a no smoking restaurant or bar. I don't smoke and that may be my choice. But just because I don't smoke, I don't expect others to go without their cigarettes.

"Can choose to go to a non-smoking (whatever)" is the same as denial of the right to breathe.
Prove it's not.

Whether smokers go with or without their cigarettes, who cares, that's on them. But once they impinge on my ability to breathe, shit's gonna hit the fan. Why should they get breath rights and I don't?

I've grown so fearful of violent backlash from non-smokers I don't even smoke in my car if there's a chance I will stop next to a non-smoker's car. I relegate my smoking to out in my backyard with no one around.
That's okay, that's when I put together my most devious plans. Non-smokers beware. ;)

You are absolutely right. They do not have to give that restaurant, bar or casino their business.
You just don't get it...

Smokers are the ones engaging in offensive behavior. It is the SMOKER who must be inconvenienced

Oh get real. For decades people smoked in restaurants and there weren't ambulances lined up outside because people "couldn't breathe!" Matter of fact, it didn't bother them. Most people smoked, some did not and they didn't cry out for oxygen!

Now there may be a smattering of people who smoke and whiners are becoming drama queens feigning the "filth" they are bringing into their lungs are shortening their lives from those few cigarettes by years and years! So go to a No Smoking restaurant, bar or casino or stay home and stay safe. :boohoo:

That's okay: I think I'll head on down to my local tobacco shop and pick up some Skoal. Let's see how all the nono-smokers like me spittin while they try to enjoy their meal. ;)

You just don't get it. It is the business owner who has the right to decide what he wants in his business. He is the one who is taking the risk. Putting up the money, getting licenses, and promoting his business.

Thanks for that. Driving behind a smoker is damn disgusting. Gotta roll all the windows up. Fuck that.

In other words, "fuck your rights, breather". Yup, that's what I thought.

The ambulances don't come to the restaurant. They come to the house years later when the lung cancer creep becomes too much for the body to resist.

Then they take you to the hospital to give you false hope and lots of morphine. So there's that.

Then you die while your children watch.

Thanks. Thanks a fucking lot for looking out for the rights of killers.
