India to fly flag at half-mast on Sunday as nation mourns Lee Kuan Yew

NEW DELHI: On Sunday (Mar 29), people across India will see their flag flown at half-mast and enjoy no official entertainment, as the nation observes a day of national mourning for Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's founding Prime Minister.

While the people of India mourn the passing of the late leader, their Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be joining other world leaders - past and present - in attending Mr Lee's State Funeral Service at the University Cultural Centre (UCC) in Singapore, where the ceremony will be held from 2pm to 5.15pm.

"It is as a mark of respect that Sunday is being observed as a day of mourning in India," said Nalin Kohli, Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, adding that Mr Lee set the foundation of "a strong, healthy, mutually beneficial relationship" between the two nations.
