The FBI was telling Congress that Smirnov was still good back in 2023.

This indictment smells. And further tarnishes the already tarnished FBI.

House Oversight Committee Republicans say the FBI told Congress their source had worked for the bureau since 2010, had been paid roughly $200,000 for information, and was deemed “highly credible.” Ranking Oversight Democrat Jamie Raskin acknowledged the FBI’s briefing about credibility. Republicans say Director Christopher Wray also confirmed the FBI used Mr. Smirnov’s information in investigations until June 2023 (when the bribery claims went public). The FBI affirmed Mr. Smirnov’s credibility so long as it was useful to do so. (emphasis added)

It isn’t useful any longer. Republicans for months have hounded special counsel David Weiss, who is handling the Hunter Biden probe, to explain what he’s done since 2020 to verify or refute the Smirnov claims. Last week’s indictment, which he sought, is his answer. The FBI’s “highly credible” source is now presented as a brazen liar, a boaster, a profiteer who played a double game with the bureau, and a partisan who had it in for Joe Biden.

If this is true, it ought to be massive story that the FBI for 13 years relied on a man who prosecutors now worry has troubling and “extensive” ties to Russian intelligence. Instead, the media in its desire to embarrass Republicans is working to absolve the FBI, with the New York Times explaining the bureau never did “think much” of the Smirnov claims and concluded in 2020 that they “did not merit continued investigation.”

It’s a clown show, with evil clowns.

The party that likes to fuck kids has delusions of grandeur that they can arrest their way out of this...

It's our job to make sure that doesn't happen.

FD-1023 form is used by FBI agents “to record raw, unverified reporting from confidential human sources (CHSs),”

Using that form requires the FBI to verify the information So there is no way that the FBI says that the information is true. They can only say that someone told them this

thus that why use FD-1023

They have to verify its contents

The Justice Department told Republicans last year that it would be a mistake to publicize raw paperwork reflecting an informant’s tip to the FBI.

Republicans had found out a confidential human source told his FBI handler in 2020 about a Ukrainian oligarch saying he bribed Joe Biden. They demanded the Justice Department hand over the so-called FD-1023 form documenting the tip.

The republicans started this based on unverified report. The reason why is because Trump was impeached twice.

Politics demand retribution especially when the republican base seek revenge

Thus as the song goes they will go for anything as long as its something

So republicans knew that it was unverified but hoped that if they keep it open and people talking about it that a miracle would happen or it would galvanize the vote in support of Trump

Well , I do give them to much credit, as its more like as long as they pushed the story then the supporters would believe it.

WRONG! Fucking liar.

They started it based on Joe Biden publicly bragging about how he extorted Ukraine's government to fire PG Shokin, who refused to close the investigation of Burisma, which was giving the Biden family millions of dollars.

You're an ignorant moron.

Your ignorance is showing but blame me if makes you feel better. True Trump supporter who can't handle the truth it and throws a sissy fit

Biden worked for Obama and the president sent him to Ukraine.

If you don't have an argument use the icon as it just requires one finger. and you don't have to open your month

Muhammed then you can use that finger for other things

Has the FBI ever had a good reputation?

At this point, it appears to be case of let’s just put out any old information and we know the media will gleefully report it as long as it makes Republicans look bad.
