Should America try to emulate Germany's socialism?

if austerity is so great, why arnt germans implementing it for themselves?

too stupid but perfectly liberal !!! Germany has been productive and frugal; they have practiced austerity!!!! and so now they have the money for the EU bailouts that those liberal countries who were not productive and frugal now need desperately to survive!!!

Is that really over your head?? It's always like talking to a kindergartner.

I cited the IMF calling germany's stimulus successful, you have any sources? And how would lowering spending (FIRING PEOPLE) possibly boost production?

Ed only has sources with no links, generally. But the normal methodology that ed follows is simply to post propaganda straight out of the bat shit crazy con tool web sites, or that he makes up in his tiny little brain. he just does what he is paid to do, which is post con dogma and try to break up progressive discussions. Ed is, in a word, irrelevant.

Ed may be completely unaware that Germany has a very, very highly unionized labor force.
And ed is unaware that germany protected workers during their recovery from the great republican recession of 2008, reducing their hours but making up their wages until things got better.
Ed does not know that german companies are not allowed to discriminate against unions in any way.

dear, so does France and Italy!!!

See why we say slow, so very very slow!!!!
Odd. I do not remember suggesting looking at France or Italy. Can you help me remember when I said that, dear?

See why we say dishonest, so very very dishonest!!!!

If extreme wealth and income is not only unethical but also economically inefficient, politically corrosive, socially divisive, and environmentally destructive, should America stop pretending "...that the creation of wealth for a few will inevitable benefit the many...?

Omfam seems to think so:

"It reported that while the world's 100 richest people enjoyed a net income of $240bn (£150bn) last year, people in 'extreme poverty' lived on less than $1.25 (78p) a day.

"'We can no longer pretend that the creation of wealth for a few will inevitably benefit the many - too often the reverse is true,' said Oxfam chief executive Barbara Stocking."

I always thought Germany did so well not just because of its highly unionised workforce but also its very high tax rate. The proportion of taxes and social security contributions for a childless single with average earnings in Germany was 49.8 percent of the total labor costs in 2011 according to statistics. In the US, this was 29.5%.

I've also read that Germany still exports more than they import. They didn't offshore their manufacturing base like the USA did.

dear, the USA didn't offshore jobs. The liberals did by supporting unions, taxing corporations too much, and by running up so much debt that Japan and China could buy or debt rather than our products.

As a liberal its all way over your head, right??

Dear, Germany and France have about the same per capita income as Arkansas, about out poorest state.

See why we are positive a liberal will be slow??

Not a socialist, but just to ask, do people in Arkansas have assured health care? Is access to universities for their children part of public education? Do they have rapid and efficient public transportation? How much do these things cost other, more 'wealthy' Americans?

Not a 'liberal', but I nevertheless find this argument strange:
Corporations set prices for products = good.
Workers set wage requests = bad.

Yes the ER, Medicaid, Medicare, Schip, where we spend about double what they spend in Germany!!

Is access
to universities for their children part of public education?

most if not all states have state universities. In Aarkansas tuition starts at around $1500.

Do they have rapid and efficient public transportation?

Arkansas is mostly rural. Sorry!!

too stupid!! Corporations don't set prices the free market does!!

Workers set wage requests = bad.

too stupid!! in the absence of unions the free market sets wages and prices!!!

dear, the advantage of the free market is that both parties agree on the price. It is non-violent because both parties get what they want or they don't complete the transaction.

The German economy certainly wasn't made by the euro. It was strong even before the introduction of the euro. And things have gotten so bad these days that many Germans mention they'd be in favour of a return to the Deutschmark. If you look at statistics about Germany and Europe, Germans themselves are far more satisfied with the way things have gone than Europeans.
