Paul Manafort, who was forced out as President Trump’s campaign chairman last summer after five months of infighting and criticism about his business dealings with pro-Russian interests, disclosed Tuesday that his consulting firm had received more than $17 million over two years from a Ukrainian political party with links to the Kremlin.

The filing serves as a retroactive admission that Mr. Manafort performed work in the United States on behalf of a foreign power — Ukraine’s Party of Regions — without disclosing it at the time, as required by law. The Party of Regions is the political base of former President Viktor F. Yanukovych, who fled to Russia during a popular uprising in 2014.

None of that has anything to do with who is ruling in Ukraine today. You are taking a figure from 80 years ago, a nationalist who fought both Russian Communist and German Nazi's for his cause, Nationalism. He is a celebrated figure because of his contributions to nationalism, not because he was affiliated with Nazi's at the very earliest stages of WWII when Ukraine was in danger of invasion and occupation from the Nazi's' and Russians.

The Ukrainian hero was in fact arrested by the Gestapo in Sept. of 1941 and spent the war in a Nazi concentration camp as a prisoner. He was finally released because the Nazi's needed him to lead a resistance against the Russian's who were occupying parts of Ukraine with no signals that the territories would be turned back to the Ukraine people after the battles with the Nazi's.

The Russian propaganda point is that the folks in Ukraine who celebrate a Ukrainian who spent years in a Nazi concentration camp is a Nazi because he accepted a release and help from the Nazi's to fight against Russian occupation. Hence, anyone who celebrates the anti-Russian hero is a Nazi.

The bottom line on Ukraine is this: we promised by treaty to defend them in exchange for them giving up their nuclear weapons. tt had nothing to do with getting rid of the pro-Russian government, Nazi's controlling Ukraine then or now. It's just digging up old history and using it to demonize the government in Ukraine with that Nazi nonsense.
