First Thoughts: Measuring the shutdown's impact in Virginia - First Read
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) took a shoot at Heritage Action, which helped lead the defund-Obamacare effort. "Heritage used to be the conservative organization helping Republicans,” he said. "There’s a real question in the minds of many Republicans right now, and I’m not just speaking for myself: Is Heritage going to go so political that it really doesn’t amount to anything anymore?"

Hatch is part of the DC filth, in power for decades, living off the tax payer and supporting laws that he himself will be immune from.

Shocking that the old guard assholes on both sides hate small government promoting organizations.

gawd these types of threads have become BORING

so some politician disparages someone, Obama does it all the time don't see you worry over that..instead you post on it and cheer and bow to him over it

do we now go cream our jeans?

Heritage Action went neutral when it should have continued backing the conservatives they were beholden to. Now Republican don't think they an count on the Heritage Action group and that is damage that irreversible.

That is correct but attacking Heritage is a new step for Repubs

Actually there is background to this situation.

The RINO's struck first telling conservatives and tea party people that if they accept backing from Heritage Foundation, Freedom Works or even Demint's Senate Conservative Fund that he or she would become personna non grata in the Republican Party.

The RINOS are the ones that have thrown down the gauntlet.

This battle is just beginning. I for one really welcome it. Because here you have a situation where the old guard is flexing on the new guard.

So much for a big tent when it comes to these old inside the beltway Senators who truly believe in all their arrogance that they are ruling from Rome.

Where does the left come up with this stuff? Media Matters and other left wing propaganda sources that monitor (only) republicans? The intent is to try to split republicans with out of context statements and other dirty tricks.

The republicans have been in civil war since the election of 2010. Conservatives awoke to find that neither of the two parties speak for conservatives. Bush, McCain, Romney, ... all RINOS all compassionate conservatives which means socialist republicans that are just barely more conservative than the furthest left democrats.

As the opposition from these lawmakers came into focus late Tuesday afternoon, and leadership prepared to move its package to the Rules Committee, a bombshell dropped on Capitol Hill: Heritage Action, the powerful outside conservative group, was key-voting against the House measure.

“Unfortunately, the proposed deal will do nothing to stop Obamacare’s massive new entitlements from taking root,” read a statement from the group.

The announcement took members by surprise. There were whispers around the Capitol complex all day long that Heritage Action had promised to remain neutral so as not to undermine the newfound harmony of the House Republican Conference.

The fallout was fast and far-reaching. According to GOP aides, several on-the-fence conservatives quickly informed House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., that they would be voting no. Supporters of the Boehner plan, including some conservatives who were determined to keep the House unified, were furious.

Why do Repubs give Heritage Action so much power?

Odd question. You might as well be asking why the republicans pretend to be conservative at all.

The Republicans are "supposed" to be conservative or at least they claim to me. Heritage is promoted by the right wing talking heads (mostly Levin and Hannity) and politicians alike (Tea Party type) as being a leading, if somewhat academic, conservative group that is untied to the republican party. IOW Heritage is a group of actual conservatives vs the group of folks called the republicans in which the actual conservatives are the minority.

And here you see the reactionaries whining that the mainstream GOP is being mean again.
