I've always been a big fan of the super-villain Scarecrow (DC Comics) and wanted to offer this New Year's kids' adventure tale about discovering imagination and courage in times of great depression. Thanks for reading,

In a certain Midwest town in the summer of 2021, a villainous costumed Scarecrow was running around spreading panic while wielding toxic acid-guns, filled with corrosive HCL acid. This 'Scarecrow' wanted to frighten children by confusing them with water-guns that were actually acid-guns and shooting these acid-guns at cop cars and in cornfields. Scarecrow even showed up at a comic book festival pretending to be a folklore advocate that summer!

However, the defiant children of this town weren't going to just give up that easy and wanted to put up a serious challenge to this villainous Scarecrow creating panic with his terrible acid-guns. The kids banded together, sometimes in masks, and began wielding water-guns filled with hot water, ready to shoot at the Scarecrow's feet to scare him away and make him fly away and just disappear. This was a great stand for the kids of this Midwest town, and the honor of water-guns were at stake!

ARTIST IN TOWN: "There's a long tradition of celebrating the liberty and valiant spirit of children and youngsters in America."

A TV crew decided to travel to one of the cornfields in this Midwest town supposedly haunted by the acid-gun wielding Scarecrow and filmed mock scenes in which the 'Scarecrow' was terrifying the youngsters of the town with his messages about stark terror and ugly terrorism.

The kids banded together and formed a sort of witch-hunting posse in the cornfields of this Midwest town, determined to use their water-guns filled with hot water to scare away the Scarecrow while pretending to be putting on Halloween theater performances in the cornfields. Their hot water-guns were hidden in the ground and ready to be picked up to scare away the 'Scarecrow' when he finally made his appearance!

TOWN JOURNALIST: "Water-guns have always been popular and will continue to be symbols of youthful drama."

As the defiant banded kids of this Midwest town prepared to frighten the Scarecrow with their hot water-guns in the cornfield, the leader of the kids, Malachi, wondered if this active kids' adventure was somehow reflective of a modern mobilization for great spiritual dance.

SCARECROW: "I doubt these imaginative kids have what it takes to create a proper stand against my vile daggers!"

A Wake Forest professor named Ben decided to show up dressed as an ambulance driver in the Midwest town cornfield while the defiant kids were fending off the Scarecrow with their hot water-guns. This professor Ben was using a toy gun fitted with a flame-thrower to create flames necessary to scare away the Scarecrow if he refused to give in to the kids' use of the hot-water toy guns. Ben claimed, "Scarecrow needs a reminder that no town is resistant to evil but any American town can fight danger."

As a reward for their heroism, Ben and the defiant kids of the Midwest town were presented with a very nifty Transformers (Hasbro) toy by the town mayor, a firefighting warrior who'd symbolize this modern 'stand' against the very presence of terrorism.

CHILDREN'S STORYBOOK AUTHOR: "I'll capture all this modern Scarecrow fighting in an autumn harvest story about detention."
