Whitehall, every person in the public eye in this country has likely gotten at least a few threats, and they are often quite serious. Many people are fond of shooting soap stars, small town mayors, beauty queens and anyone else whose murder will garner them a wee bit of noteriety and I am sure Palin is well acquainted with this sad aspect of being famous here.

This ain't something novel, I assure you. Whatever her reasons were for cancelling, it cannot have been a condition she has had to endure for at least two years.

I'm not sure I understand where this thread is going. Does the left allege that the threats to Palin are similar to "soap stars" and small town mayors? I seriously doubt if many people are "fond of shooting soap stars or small town mayors" but it is tragically evident that some nut cases are willing to shoot successful and prominent female politicians. Is the left blind to the non-stop hate filled rhetoric directed at Palin in the last two years?

Whitehall, we live in a violent, media driven era. Public figures of all sorts -- even local ones -- are so frequently targeted for threats, stalking and even murder attempts that to enter the public arena in America in 2011 is to per force agree to cope with such things.

Goes with the territory, sadly. I can confidently assure you, your local pretty weather lady on tv has as much reason to be fearful and cautious as Obama does.
