So what if he said "black"? What is the big deal? Are there not issues in the black community that need addressed? isn't there a problem with poverty? What is your point?

What the problem with him singling out black people as welfare recipients while he was talking in Iowa? Maybe the fact that the overwhelming majority of people on welfare in Iowa are WHITE.
Your link just supports what Santorum said in the first place.
Poverty By Race/Ethnicity
Areas with a high incidence of poverty often reflect the low income of their racial/ethnic minorities. Nonmetro non-Hispanic Blacks had the highest incidence of poverty in 2010, at 32.9 percent (32.2 percent in 2009). The 2010 poverty rate for nonmetro Hispanics was 29.5 percent, which is 1.7 percentage points higher than in 2009. Both non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic poverty rates for 2010 were more than twice the rate for non-Hispanic Whites (13.1 percent), which was also the case in 2009. The high rate of poverty for Hispanics is noteworthy as their share of the nonmetro population has been increasing faster than other racial/ethnic groups, from less than 3 percent in 1990 to 7.4 percent in 2010. (See the section on high-poverty counties for more about poverty in an ethnic/sub regional context.)

Hmm.. with Santorum rising, time to take another look at him. We certainly don't need anymore stinking Rhinos in office. So, he may be a worthy candidate for the Right.
Here's the cold, hard truth. Santorum is unelectable. As unelectable as Dennis Kuchinich. As unelectable as any other extremist. Once Li'l Ricky Santorum gets on the stump and starts pounding away at the wedge issues Social Conservatives some how believe are their ticket to victory, the sane, thinking Americans will reject him for precisely what he is: a bigot and a hate monger.
It's a losing strategy that has a time-worn track record. But, as Social Conservatives are notoriously poor students of history, they will cling to him and then bitch and whine in November.
