End Dangerous Sanctions Now; Peace Through Free Trade | Libertarian Party

It literally seems that USA foreign policy deals out sanctions like cards being dealt in a poker game. Problem is the sanctions inevitably lead to war not peace. I'm not anti war when war is needed, but this playing world cop by the feds has gotten way out of hand in my opinion. Other than protecting trade routes the USA's jurisdiction ends at our international boarders, at least from a constitutional perspective. Anyone else see a problem with the feds foreign policy of sanctions & preemptive strikes(shades of nazi Germany!)???

Sure they work! They're designed as non-military attacks and they are HIGHLY effective.

That they lead to 'blowback', intended or not, is all part of the plan...

China not co-operatin' with sanctions regime...

China won't stop importing Iranian oil
March 21 (UPI) -- China's importation of Iranian oil is not in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
Spokesman Hong Lei told China's official Xinhua news agency that his country imports oil based on its economic development needs. "China opposes any country implementing unilateral sanctions on the other country according to its domestic law," Hong said.

His comments came in response to a question about sanctions on Iran announced by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton issued a statement Tuesday saying the United States will initially exempt Japan and 10 European nations from its tough new sanctions on Iran. Twelve countries, including China, must reduce oil imports from Iran before the end of July or face sanctions.

11 countries exempted from Iran sanctions
March 20th, 2012 - Eleven countries, including Japan and European nations, have significantly reduced their Iran oil purchases and should not be subject to new U.S. sanctions, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Congress Tuesday.
The countries are Japan, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom, according to a State Department statement."The actions taken by these countries were not easy. They had to rethink their energy needs at a critical time for the world economy and quickly begin to find alternatives to Iranian oil, which many had been reliant on for their energy needs," said Clinton in the State Department statement.

"Only two months after the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2012, we have made progress in shrinking Iran's oil export markets, and isolating its Central Bank from the world financial system. The United States is leading an unprecedented international coalition of partners that has brought to bear significant pressure on the Iranian regime to change its course."

There are 12 other countries purchasing oil from Iran that could face sanctions. A State Department official who briefed reporters on the announcement would not list the countries, but major importers of Iranian oil include China, India and South Korea. Those countries could look at Japan as an example of how to ween off Iranian oil, said the State Department official. Japan has reduced its oil purchases from Iran by 15% to 22% in the last half of 2011, the official said.

The president needs to make a final decision by March 30 as to whether those other countries have or have not met the requirements to significantly reduce Iran oil purchases. If the president determines any countries have not, the countries' banks will face sanctions starting at the end of June.

Ideally, sanctions keep the bad guys from making money to do more bad things.

Your statement is a product of the propaganda machine. In reality only the poor are affected by sanctions. Those in power will still just steal what they want. Sanctions are social engineering at its worst because they are an attempt to put pressure on regimes by creating unrest among the masses by the inducement of economic hardship. They are economic terrorism because they target innocents.

No Sanctions do not wOrk Iran is still developing nuclear capabilities, Middle East/African countries are still abusing human rights, Cuba is still a communist state. The only thing that sanctions do is make countries poorer

Wow, I hope you didn't spend all night coming up with that comeback. Next time call a third grader, it will save you some time.

Sanctions against Iran aren't going to work, that's for sure.

For one reason, obama has given 11 nations exemptions from sanctions. That's enough to keep Iran rolling along fairly flush. Another reason is that sanctions only work against countries that are peaceful. Sanctions worked against South Africa to end apartheid. Sanctions wouldn't have worked against German, Japan or Korea. Sanctions do not work against countries that are preparing for war. To think otherwise is just evidence that the dear leader, King obama Bones, is insane. The only thing it might do is force them into accelerating whatever war preparations they have in mind to begin with. A major reason why sanctions won't work against Iran, is that Iran already is of the opinion that obama is a liar and untrustworthy, if he can screw Israel, he won't have any qualms about screwing Iran too.

No. They do not work, kill and ruin the lives of innocent civilians and ultimately only lead to hot war conflicts.

Sanctions hurt innocent civilians, not the regime they're aimed at. Which is why they're useless.

They appear to have kept Saddam Hussein from getting WMD's didn't they?

Oh...wait...I probably shouldn't ask CONZ that question, should I? It's not like they have a very good record on WMD's.

The bombings and no-fly zone had nothing to do with that, huh? All those sanctions accomplished was mass starvation of innocent civilians and children. Yeah, that really showed Saddam.

There were sanctions on Iraq since the desert storm and all it did was kill countless Iraqi civilians.

Decepticon is nothing more than a partisan fucktard hack. It's gotten to be annoying to read his ramblings. he's like that guy outside of my building always talking to himself about nothing.

They work at hurting the people more than the government they are aimed at. The point is to take something away. That happens the problem is the citizens feel it far more deeply than the leaders ever will.

Essentially sanctions are set up for political pressure from the citizenery. It is hard for that to effect a dictator. You're basically looking at attempting to set off a civil war in that regard, so you may as well just take out the dictator.
