When President Assad will visit Iran, his plane will be escorted by Russian jets. Coalition airforces have been warned by Russia to not to get close to Assad´s plane in order to avoid an aerial battle.
"Syria’s President Bashar Assad is set to make his second state visit since the Syrian War began in 2011. His first visit was to Moscow in October, which will now be followed with a trip to Tehran. Rumors circulating said it will be by the end of the year or in January. Lebanon’s Al-Diyar newspaper reported that the exact date will not be disclosed for security concerns.
Al-Diyar also cited that Moscow had told US-led coalition air forces to not “get close to Assad’s plane in order to avoid an aerial battle”.
Middle Eastern media, including Al-Jazeera, have claimed that Russia has proposed escorting the plane carrying Assad with four of its own fighter jets.
Fars on Sunday said the scheduled trip would come as the Syrian army secured victories against “terrorist groups”. Since the Russian air campaign in Syria began at the end of September, the Syrian Arab Army and its allies have made tremendous territorial gains in Latakia, Homs and Aleppo provinces."
