What I don't understand is why Ukraine sent out the tweet with the burning bridge while Marilyn sang Happy Birthday in a backhand, a message to Putin. Do the Ukrainian leaders realize that the small psychological/moral boost they gain from this will not offset any escalation?

In times of war, keep your mouth shut. The British were notorious for maintaining secrecy during WWII saboteur activities, most not publicly known until decades after. Loose lips sink ships and they put soldiers and citizens at risk, maybe even the lives of their own politicians.

Ukraine didn't ESCALTE this war. Russia started it AND escalated it. Ukraine bombed a bridge to try to STOP the inflow of Russian equipment that was illegally used to kill their citizens and soldiers in an illegal war.

And just as you say Ukraine has a right to defend itself so does Russia which has been saying for years that NATO encroachment would lead to War and that there would be consequences for the revolution that ousted Ukraine's pro Russian leadership in 2014.

This is a most important reason the war escalated when terms could have been negotiated for peace. Biden calling Putin a war criminal on the global stage was intentional. This statement was discussed by Biden's handler‘s prior to his war posturing, it was not a slip up from old Joe. Public posturing amongst NATO members made things a lot worse than they already were, particularly from the US and from the UK’s prime minister at the time, Boris Johnson who directly participated. Johnson met with Zelensky and told him not to negotiate with Putin. Johnson, along with Biden, influenced Zelenskyy to not pursue a peace deal.

The continuation of warfare falls in part on NATO members for their intentional words of war. Peace could have been negotiated and still can. Those health masks that were distributed globally needed to be given to warmongers to muzzle them permanently.
