Good. The only thing that got us to the Moon was our competing with the Soviets. Maybe this is the kick in the ass we need.

Jesus Putin is a tool. They'll rush it as they always do and their astronauts will die along the way. Poor Putin is stuck in 1961. Which is probably better than conservatives in the US who are stuck in 1853.

How pathetic though that all these people are miserable in their present day lives. Maybe Putin will have them prop Yuri Gagarin up in the capsule with a mechanism that has his boney arm wave out the window.

I personally don't care who does it first. Space exploration should be a human endeavor. Not a pissing contest between nations. But if a pissing contest is what it takes then that's what it takes.
