Is it humane to expect citizens of advanced capitalist economies like the US to perform farm labor or should US citizens be entitled to having this labor performed for them by non-citizen migrants?

"bad and all that?" lol. That doesn't sound too wholehearted a criticism. If you don't really feel like hate is a problem, why not just say so? If you ask me, hate is more of a dominant culture than love but part of the culture of hate is to deny the hate; it gives the bullying that slight extra sting.

As for exploiting non-citizens, if you read a few posts back I said that paying non-citizen migrants low wages to perform agricultural labor seems uncomfortably close to slavery to me. The irony is that agricultural labor is necessary so when is it NOT exploitative? When citizens do it instead of non-citizens? What if citizens are drafted non-voluntarily? If high enough pay is given? What if such high pay drives the cost of food so high that people go hungry? Wouldn't that also be exploitative?

Really it's a fascinating social-economic topic when you can just get beyond the ego-politics of declaring racism and blaming. I'm not saying that racism isn't part of the equation but worrying about who to blame, white guilt, etc. are not really conducive to good discussion. Why not just put ego and blame aside and work out the issues?

Your response to this idea reeks of anxiety. Drafts have been used in the past for military service. People are effectively drafted into jury duty. Why not agricultural labor?

How can you have a democratic discussion if you refuse to consider certain possibilities? Your whole tone is totalitarian. If you think it is a bad idea and you want to post your reasons, that's one thing. It's something else entirely to push to stifle the discussion based on your insistence that "they are not and they will not be."

If drafts have been used in the past, why can't they be brought back for something like agricultural service? This work needs to be done and it needs to be done cheaply because the farm bill is geared to producing huge amounts of food without costing farmers too much in labor costs.
