Rick Perry Hires Defense Attorney Amid Criminal Allegations

Uh oh. This might hurt his chances of being elected President in 2016.

Not really. He never had a chance to begin with.

Not sure if this thing actually has any legs or is just wishful thinking, but if it does get legs, it could actually hurt Abbott.

The Texas governor has reportedly hired a high-profile defense attorney to represent him amid growing allegations that he criminally abused his veto power. At issue is his withholding of $7.5 million from the Public Integrity Unit, responsible for investigating cases ranging from insurance fraud to corruption committed by state politicians. Which, of course, raises even more suspicions.

According to the Austin American-Statesman:

The hiring of David L. Botsford is the latest signal that the inquiry into Perry’s conduct might be gaining momentum after a seven-month investigation. Perry, whose term will end in January, is not seeking re-election. He sought the Republican nomination for president in 2012 and has not ruled out another presidential run.

Perry is accused of vetoing funds that would have gone to the unit as a form of political blackmail after the prosecutor who runs it, Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, refused to resign following a drunken driving arrest. If true, such abuse of office and coercion of a public servant could land Perry in serious legal troubles.

Not a fan of Rick Perry in general, but frankly, he kind of has a point here. You can't have a person running your Public INtegrity Unit who has been arrested for a crime.

YOu mean having a piss-ignorant Texan who is a tool of big corporations?

Oh, wait, we already did that. it was called the Dubya Bush Administration.

Two wars, two recessions, major city washed out to sea.

If he was a Democrat, the media would balk at this and call it a non-issue then he'd be more popular than ever.

Of course, since he's a Republican, better actually investigate and maybe even try the case in the media to ensure that the public turns against him.

If he were a Democrat he would have resigned..

Like Governor Eliot Spitzer or Governor Jim McGreevy.

But nope. He's a Republican and he's hanging on with both claws.

Like Governor Chris Christie.

Does anyone have any proof he used his veto power because Lehmberg wouldn't resign? Or are we just going to automatically assume he's guilty?
No, we're assuming that he's a stupid asshole. The investigation will determine if he's guilty.

Just like it did Tom Delay? Tom Delay was falsely accused, convicted in the most liberal Court in Texas, bankrupted, and his political career ruined by a corrupt Democrat Prosecutor.

Roy Earl's gotta be hiding around here somewhere.

oh.....almost forgot to add........Tom Delay was cleared of all charges by the Texas Supreme Court Court.

Why not?

We had a President arrested and convicted of the exact same thing.

A certain segment of the left will go with guilty till proven innocent the rest of us will wait for the facts.

A certain portion of the right does the same thing.

It's called politics, even if it is slimy.

What is important is that the investigation may derail any hope Perry has for a 2016 bid for the presidency.

Says the far left Obama drone.

Yep. Take the OP as an example, insinuating because he hire a lawyer he must be guilty.

Arent you the same guy who said Sharpton told on the mob because they had something on him despite there being no evidence of that.

Suddenly you're a lot less speculative. Isnt that strange? :doubt:

Guano, author of the OP, will OF COURSE presume guilt (as long as it's a Republican he's talking about).

That asshole couldn't find "objectivity" in a dictionary if you spelled it out for him, highlighted the entry and read it to him.

A governor can not be prosecuted for exercising the power given him by the state constitution. This is nothing but a political hit piece by the left. It's kind of like prince harry can't be prosecuted for his treasonous speech on the floor of the senate when he said the surge had failed and they war was lost. No one the left had any problem with prince harry.

It sure won't stop them from trying.

Yeah, the two democrats resigned due to sex scandals, you are comparing apples and circuit boards here.

Yeah they do it as well.
