Rich pay 50% of country’s taxes.

Probably been posted somewhere already, but worth another gander...

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and
independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should
do for themselves.

yeah... only a couple hundred times.... Isn't it Glenn Beck's version of the Apostle's Creed?

The left will never be happy, will never think the rich are taxed enough...
The Left will never be happy about spending...they will never believe government spends enough....:eusa_hand:

there's old

and there's stupid

but there's nothing quite like both existing to impart it's wisdom together....

Hey Pub Dupes- They pay 50% of the FEDERAL income taxes, and make 60%+ of the money. Those who work and pay no FEDERAL income taxes pay a higher percentage in all taxes and fees than billionnaire hedge fund managers. You are totally misled.

Granny says, "Dat's why dem Bush tax cuts for the rich folks need to be repealed...

IRS: 1,470 millionaires paid no income tax
Aug. 5, 2011 -- The Internal Revenue Service says 1,470 of 235,000 U.S. millionaires paid no income tax in 2009.
The IRS said millionaires comprised less than 1 percent of the 140 million tax returns filed in 2009 and that 8,274 U.S. citizens claimed incomes of $10 million or more. The tax rate for those earning $1 million or more is 24.4 percent, up from 23.1 percent in 2008 but less than the 28.5 percent rate they paid in 2002, Politico reported Friday.

The IRS said the numbers are based on 2008 incomes, during the worst of the recession, meaning incomes for that year were considerably lower than normal. The agency said the majority of Americans -- 97 percent -- reported incomes of less than $200,000. The average income reported in 2009 was $54,283, a drop of 6 percent, or more than $3,500 over 2008, the lowest level since 1997.

The average tax rate declined from 12.5 percent in 2008 to 11.4 percent in 2009, the report said. The IRS said the amount of unemployment benefits claimed on tax returns nearly doubled from 2008 to 2009.

you need to adjust your statement there Underdog. It's not that they don't pay any taxes at all. They just don't pay Federal income taxes. All other taxes apply... Social Security, Medicare, State, local, gasoline, etc, etc, etc...

To sit there and say that a family who's income is $30k or below doesn't pay any taxes at all is... well... a lie.

And the "rich" don't pay any of these other taxes?

Everyone pays gasoline taxes, property taxes, ect. But the debate is about Federal income tax.

:eusa_shhh: Youre ruining a good rant.

Here's the thing. The reality is that 1% of the population controls 50% of the wealth and the next 19% control the next 40% of it and the remainder of us, including I expect everyone on this board is amongst the 80% fighting over the 10% that's left over.

That seems to be what liberals are harping on lately. Must of been in a talking points memo.

Its a bit of scare tactics to say the top 1% of the wealthiest people "control" 50% of the wealth.
Who are these people? Most of them are owners/founders of tech companies, candy manufacturers, and retail stores.

We're supposed to be outraged that Bill Gates "controls" Microsoft? Or that Zuckerman "controls" Facebook? Or that the Mars family makes good candy bars?

Its not like these guys can just pocket all the wealth their companies generate. These are large businesses with thousands of employees that they need to run the business.

If these CEOs and founders of these companies shouldn't be in control of all this wealth, then who should be?

That 50% pays plenty of taxes...Payroll taxes, FICA, Sales taxes to name a few. You stated that they pay "no taxes at all".
It's shameful that there is such a huge gap between rich and poor in America.

Sales taxes do not go to the federal government. If you don't like them, then repeal them. FICA taxes go to pay for Social Security. At least, that's the theory. if you want to disassociate the taxes from the benefits, then you're admitting that Social Security is just another welfare program. the same goes for Medicare. The old coots don't like being told they're just a gang of welfare moochers. They believe they are entitled to their benefits because they paid into a fund.

RICH PAY 50% OF COUNTRY’S TAXES.

This is what is call “radical right wing spin.” Although the rich pay 50% of the county’s taxes they still only pay less than 2 % of the wealth and federal, state and local income or none at all.

“The wealthy on the only people that create jobs.” More radical right wing spin. SOME wealthy create jobs in this country and SOME create jobs in India, Mexico, etc. IF tax cuts for the rich create jobs, why is this country unemployment rate at 9.2% and 14 million people lost their jobs since the tax cuts?

This is the rhetoric that the radical right wing peach because this is what the dummies of America wants to hear but most Americans are not dummies and can do the math

Rhetoric my ass. It's a fact. 51 persent of AMERICANS pay ZERO federal income tax and then on top of that we have to give them a REBATE on the ZERO they don't pay. The rich pay the lions share of the federal income tax revenuse.. suck it up

Luxury of poverty. :eusa_whistle:

Rhetorically.

I don't care how much tax the rich pay but isn't it interesting that we never hear anything about the nearly 50% of the American population that pay no taxes at all. Why isn't anyone interested in them and how much they don't pay?

Mostly because it isn't true. Payroll taxes for social security and Medicare have increased sharply over the past 40 years. At 15% of income up to a ceiling of ~108K for many the payroll taxes are the biggest burden they pay.

If you really want a fair view of the subject you should look at total income from all sources and total Federal taxes of all types. I think you would find the real story is quite different than the spin you hear from Hannity.

Sadly the old coots who received high cost of living increases in the 70's and had very low payroll taxes over their life time were a gang of welfare moochers.

For the rest of us, we will be lucky to get back what we put in.

I don't have a problem with it but even some of them are chagrined like Buffett when they pay lower effective tax rates than their secretaries.

First problem with your post; the rich do not pay 50% of the taxes. The top 10% of income earners pay approximately 30% of all federal taxes, that is it. They also earn 45% of all income. Therefore, they are undertaxed. When people hear about the rich paying 50% or 70% of taxes, they are only talking about income taxes. What they fail to discuss is the fact that income taxes only account for approximately 40% of all federal taxes. That same group of wealthy people, the top 10% of income earners, who pay 70% of federal income taxes, well they pay a very small percentage of the rest of the taxes. Who pays the rest? For the most part, everyone who is not super wealthy, those who earn the other 55% of the total income.
