Food and drink at pro sports events is very expensive.

Is that where they make their money though? Really make their money I mean? Tickets, Merch, food, does all that outpace the marketing rights they sell to the networks?

Pro sports don't make their money at the gate. They make it from TV deals. People choosing not to attend a pro football game in person doesnt hurt NFL teams bottom lines. There is always someone willing to fill the seat and in reality the team doesnt care anyway.

There are so many TV channels that ratings of perhaps a couple of million people nationally watching basketball is outstanding today. And it may be less. We all have our views on value. To imagine our homes having the ability to receive so much entertainment is incredible. Although a lot seems to be following political agendas.
