• The Facebook account of Jihadi John's brother is linked to a world of hardened militants supporting and fighting with ISIS, MailOnline can reveal today.

Omar Emwazi, the 21-year-old brother of ISIS executioner Mohammed Emwazi, deleted his social media account shortly after the real identity of Jihadi John was revealed.

But MailOnline captured Omar's friends from his profile before it was deleted - and it reveals that he is just a few steps away from the ISIS fighters on the battlefield in Syria and Iraq who pose doing the ISIS one fingered salute with machine guns and rockets.

While Omar himself is directly linked to controversial preachers and other people - including one at the University of Westminster who justified ISIS atrocities in one post - the connections of his Facebook friend Abu Anwar are the most chilling.

MailOnline uncovered a number of accounts - open to all - connected to Anwar's that show young men - and toddlers - brazenly posing with automatic weapons in front of Islamic State's notorious black flag.

One account even seems to be that of an ISIS fighter who captured the Jordanian pilot who was later so horrifically burned alive on video.

Once MailOnline alerted Facebook to the links on Tuesday, the social media giant deleted the accounts on the same evening and said 'there is no place for terrorists on Facebook'.

US targets 'Jihadi John' in IS slaying videos, fate unclear
November 13, 2015 | WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. drone strike targeted a vehicle in Syria believed to be transporting the masked Islamic State militant known as "Jihadi John, according to American officials. Whether the strike killed the British man who appears in several videos depicting the beheadings of Western hostages was not known, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Friday.

Mohammed Emwazi was the target of an airstrike in Raqqa, Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said in a statement. Officials were assessing the results of the strike, he said. A U.S. official told The Associated Press that a drone had targeted a vehicle in which Emwazi was believed to be traveling. The official was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity. Cameron said officials are not yet certain whether a U.S. drone strike killed Emwazi. He said the strike had been a joint effort and that British intelligence agencies were working around the clock to find the British-accented militant, whom Cameron called the militant group"s "lead executioner."

Cameron also said the U.S. strike had been "an act of self-defense" and the right thing to do. He said targeting Emwazi was "a strike at the heart" of the Islamic State group. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, appearing at a news conference in Tunis, Tunisia on Friday said, "We are still assessing the results of this strike." He told reporters extremists "need to know this: your days are numbered and you will be defeated." Emwazi, believed to be in his mid-20s, has been described by a former hostage as a bloodthirsty psychopath who enjoyed threatening Western hostages. Spanish journalist Javier Espinosa, who had been held in Syria for more than six months after his abduction in September 2013, said Emwazi would explain precisely how the militants would carry out a beheading.

Those being held by three British-sounding captors nicknamed them "the Beatles" with "Jihadi John" a reference to Beatles member John Lennon, Espinosa said in recalling his months as one of more than 20 hostages. Cameron said Britain has been "working, with the United States, literally around the clock to track him down." "This was a combined effort," he said. "And the contribution of both our countries was essential." Cameron said that "it will demonstrate to those who would do Britain, our people and our allies harm: We have a long reach, we have unwavering determination and we never forget about our citizens."

A document published by Sky News revealed his birthdate to be August 17, 1988, and that he gained a lower second class (2:2) degree in his Information Systems with Business Management degree. The campaign group Cage, which published years of correspondence with Emwazi, blamed his radicalisation on a post-graduation trip to Tanzania in 2009. Emwazi told Cage the trip was a holiday, but said he was accused by British authorities of planning to join Al-Shebab fighters in Somalia. Following overnight detention at gunpoint in Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian capital, Emwazi said he and his friends were sent back to Britain via Amsterdam, being interrogated in both ports, according to the correspondence released by the London-based charity.

American defence officials have said they are almost certain they have killed the British militant known as Jihadi John in a drone strike. There has been no official confirmation of his death but a senior US military official told Fox News: "We are 99 per cent sure we got him." A senior US military source told the BBC Emwazi had been "tracked carefully over a period of time" and that there is a "high degree of certainty" that the mission was a success. At least one other person is believed to have in the car when it was hit.

The Pentagon has confirmed the air strike but said it would not formally announce the result until it had been fully assessed. A spokesperson for Downing Street said: "We are aware of the US statement about the airstrike targeting Mohammed Emwazi. Like them, we are not commenting further at this stage." Emwazi, who was born in Kuwait but moved to London as a child, is believed to have travelled to Syria in 2013 to join the so-called Islamic State. He gained his nickname from his part in a group of British militants dubbed "The Beatles" by fellow jihadists.

The former IT student rose to prominence after appearing in a video showing the murder of US journalist James Foley in August last year. Emwazi then appeared in videos showing the deaths of American journalist Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines and UK taxi driver Alan Henning, US aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig and Japanese journalist Kenji Goto. Wearing a black robe and balaclava, he claimed the attacks were revenge for British and American foreign policy and was not identified until February this year.
