Revealed: Exxon knew of climate change in 1981– but it funded deniers for 27 more years

A newly unearthed missive from Lenny Bernstein, a climate expert with the oil firm for 30 years, shows concerns over high presence of carbon dioxide in enormous gas field in south-east Asia factored into decision not to tap it

ExxonMobil, the world’s biggest oil company, knew as early as 1981 of climate change – seven years before it became a public issue, according to a newly discovered email from one of the firm’s own scientists. Despite this the firm spent millions over the next 27 years to promote climate denial.

The email from Exxon’s in-house climate expert provides evidence the company was aware of the connection between fossil fuels and climate change, and the potential for carbon-cutting regulations that could hurt its bottom line, over a generation ago – factoring that knowledge into its decision about an enormous gas field in south-east Asia. The field, off the coast of Indonesia, would have been the single largest source of global warming pollution at the time.

Just like the cigarette companies - they lied.

And continue to lie. One only has to peruse the Environment section to see the kind of idiotic lies that are spread by the energy corporations and repeated by gullible fools.

Trolls are at a loss and are holding their breath collective, waiting anxiously for their marching orders from the Kock brothers in response to such a revelation. ...

You can almost hear the bugs scrambling already.

1981 you guys were warning about "Global Cooling"

Everyone knows about climate change. Tell us a time.....ANY time, when climate has been static.

So skeptics haven't been getting any money since 2008...and the AGW farce is self destructing before our eyes with no evil oil money for the past 7 years? Interesting.

Where the F did you get that idea?

"In all, 140 foundations funneled $558 million to almost 100 climate denial organizations from 2003 to 2010."

Dark Money Funds Climate Change Denial Effort - Scientific American

The December 2013 article also stated that the Drexel University study had "found that the amount of money flowing through third-party, pass-through foundations like DonorsTrust and Donors Capital, whose funding cannot be traced, has risen dramatically over the past five years."

That would be, has RISEN dramatically since 2008...
