Syfy is giving us The Expanse and FX is making Redshirts into a series. There is also going to be a new Star Trek.

On the video game front we have Mass Effect Andromeda and a glut of new Star Wars games. There is also Star Citizen and The Mandate.

The Mandate

Paradox, a game studio best known for historical strategy games are entering the space genre with Stellaris.

Disney is giving us Star Wars every year and there is going to be another Guardians of the Galaxy. Luc Besson is giving us Valerian, which is based on a Franco-Belgian comic. And there is a Mass Effect movie in the works.

In literature Anne Leckie's Ancillary Justice has won numerous awards including the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke awards. The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey has also found success.

Will all this lead to a golden age of space epic genre in all mediums?

I'm not sure how I feel about a Mass Effect movie. While the story is epic, there is just way too much material for just 2 1/2 hours of viewing. How can anyone expect to portray the Mass Effect universe in just that tiny amount of time?

Mass Effect was a legendary interactive experience that will forever go down in history as some of the greatest games ever... but I fear that as a movie it likely will not reach nearly the same pinnacle of badassery.
