Looks like Cons are desperate for more registered Cons.

Be Careful When You Sign that Petition: Strange Republican Connections to the Anti-Prohibition Movement
Posted on August 24th, 2006 by smokey

A report from LeftyGreen.com has brought a sneaky voter registration ploy by the Republican party to Legalize.org’s attention. Apparently, a booth has been set up in Fresno, CA that supposedly offers passers-by the opportunity to sign a petition aimed at legalizing marijuana. The anti-prohibition message is just a front, however, as petition-signers are (unbeknownst to them) abruptly registered as Republican voters. It is unclear why the party would do this (perhaps to express demographic diversity in the it’s ranks?). For the full story, plus pictures, click here.

Another question, here, however is whether or not the petition itself is legit. The first answer that suggests itself is an emphatic “NO!”, but several recent developments have me wondering. Come this November’s Election Day, voters in Nevada, will have to decide on whether or not to let a “tax and regulate” marijuana policy become law. The biggest supporters of this petition, however, are Nevada’s Republican party big-wigs. Reports out of Philadelphia claim that a similar conservative-backed movement is taking place there as well. At a glance, this seems crazy–but we must remember that, traditionally, Republicanism is not as much rooted in the social conservatism that we see today but in free market liberalism that is entirely conducive to legalizing drug use. One wonders if there is really anything beyond cross-generational hatred of ‘long-hairs’ that has kept Republicans off the mark here for so long, especially given the fact that the financial stakes are so high.

Whether or not the petition is real, of course, is beside the point. The voter registration trick is flat-out reprehensible. But maybe we should think twice about what sorts of politicians we are trying to persuade. The conservative right may be an untapped resource in the fight against prohibition.

    Look at the source, Dude.

That will tell you all you need to know about this bullshit!

Just another epic liberal fail, in a long and continually growing line of epic liberal failures.

Next thing this clown will post is claims from this "source" that the petitioners were showing an abject willingness to help facilitate in the cheating of taxes, and the willingness to help facilitate the prostitution and import of innocent minor children for the purpose of pimping them out for prostitution.

What kind of moron posts an article that's nearly 4 years old and claims it's happening right now? Either Political Retard is stoned or perhaps it was to boost the "hits" on that website.

Look PJ. I myself enjoy partaking in a toke here and there. Just as much as I enjoy partaking in a glass of very fine wine here and there. Hell, i'm a conservative who actually feels it's time to legalize weed. But christ man, you need to put the fucking bong down once in awhile.

It's all about moderation man. Moderation is the key!

Funny, they said the people were tricked into registering Republican. They never actually said that Republicans were behind it.

Tell me, who exactly benefits by having liberals able to vote in the Republican primary? It sure doesn't help Republicans. It doesn't help Republicans in a general election because people don't have to vote along party lines.

How does this help Republicans? It doesn't. It makes no sense to waste time doing something like this.

And then, of course, we have to determine whether this article is even truthful. Which would be difficult since it's over 4 years old.
