I actually find the public outrage over TSA scandals involving pat downs fascinating. It's a very gray area that really puts the TSA in a very difficult position ethically.
See, while I think it is very unfortunate when the elderly or children feel violated, you can still make the solid argument that many of the TSA agents involved in these scandals should not be scorned. Look, the reality is that often times when a TSA agent pats down a child, or takes an elderly person out of line for a more thorough search they are technically just doing their jobs. The TSA has to be thorough with everyone. It is critical to transportation security. I have never understood why people get so bent out of the shape about how strict the TSA is. They fucking have to be. Otherwise terrorists are going to see the flaws in their system and exploit them. It's as simple as that. I mean, yes, going through airport security is stressful and very inconvenient, but that is the price we have to pay for national security. We can't be weighed down by people's tender sensibilities about being too impatient for the process. Grow a pair. The TSA really do deserve our respect. They are literally the last line of defense against terrorist attacks made through public transport.
Imagine what would happen if the TSA made it a policy to be more lenient on the children and elderly when it came to their process. Isn't it safe to say that a terrorist could take advantage of that leniency? Absolutely.
Of course there are instances where the agents do go too far and are inappropriate, but that doesn't mean that every child or elderly person who receives a pat down is being violated. As long as the pat downs remain off certain body parts as dictated by protocol, is it really so awful?
Also, when a TSA agent does go too far and does something outside of protocol that is invasive, it really isn't the TSA's fault. It is the fault of the TSA worker for not following protocol. Obviously they should be dealt with. TSA's protocol does not involve touching genitals or breasts.
