Lawmakers Applaud Obama Seeking Congressional Authorization on Syria - ABC News

“Under the Constitution, the responsibility to declare war lies with Congress. We are glad the president is seeking authorization for any military action in Syria in response to serious, substantive questions being raised. In consultation with the president, we expect the House to consider a measure the week of September 9th. This provides the president time to make his case to Congress and the American people,” the House Republican leadership, including House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., wrote in a joint statement

Speaker Boehner
Majority leader Cantor
Minority Leader McConnel
Majority Whip McCarthy
Conference Chair Rodger.

...even Ted Cruz.

they all support Obama's decision.

when we are about to launch a military strike that could lead to a much larger war and possible WW3, Congress needs to be behind the action 100%.

NO President should be able to launch an action that could bring the world into great chaos, without the backing of Congress.

Obama is doing the right thing. The GOP is right to support his decision.

WHAT!

Seriously, you know something is seriously fucked up when members of congress applaud Obama for bothering to FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION.

You don’t get a cookie for doing your damn job. You get one for doing something exceptional. Keeping us out of Syria might count for a cookie. Going to congress is REQUIRED.

I'm sure you'll hear why he is wrong in the upcoming days on this thread...

If he didn't do this, he's otocratic.
By doing this, he's weak and cautious.

Just watch.

I'm glad he went to Congress too, lets get all these assholes on record.

It does put the folks up for election next year in a bit of a box, and that's a good thing.

There was no decision to be made. He had no choice. A little something to do with the Constitution.

Nancy Pelosi openly sided with Boehner and told Obama he had to engage Congress no if ands or buts.

In other words she gave him fair warning not to act without Congress.

Nancy Pelosi warns President Obama that he needs to win over Congress before launching a unilateral strike against Syria

Half of Americans say they oppose taking military action against Syria and nearly 80 percent believe Obama should seek congressional approval before using any force, according to a new NBC poll

Administration officials spoke with a group of lawmakers for more than 90 minutes Thursday evening to explain why they believe Bashar Assad's government was the culprit in a suspected chemical attack

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says she sides with House Speaker John Boehner on the matter

Pelosi said must engage with the full Congress on military intervention in Syria and provide 'additional transparency into the decision-making process'

No, POTUS can take military action for up to 60 days without Congressional approval.

Amateur hour at the White House strikes again

" we heard the conversation that it was going to happen”

yet they let it happen and without warning to the rebels

All Republicans have to do is vote "NAY" across the board.
Then Black Jimmy and the DEMS can OWN this piece-of-shit war.

I agree about the fact that this is a piece of shit military action. And I hope the GOP has the courage to stop it.

Where were you on the eve of the Iraq War when there were major questions RE the intelligence linking Hussein to 9/11?

It has truly hurt this country that we have a group of voters who don't question there own party. Please don't roll over like an obedient dog when the next GOP president rekindles the war on terrorism. Learn how to ask questions.

We can't afford the costs or unintended consequences of the neocon plan to control the Middle East. Granted, it would be great if we could turn Iraq into a modern satellite of western democracy, but your party needs to question whether Washington bureaucrats have the power to shape the Middle East in our image. Big government can't run a laundromat, yet the average Republican voter thought George Bush could save the Iraqi people and democratize the Arab world. .

We need you to learn how to question your own party's foreign policy. We can't afford for another generation of conservatives to be reduced to mere cheerleaders for policies they don't understand.

You need to review the circumstances under which POTUS can do that. It isn't because he had a bad day and needed something to make himself feel better.

The text of the applicable portion of the War Powers Resolution is as follows:

In the absence of a declaration of war, in any case in which
United States Armed Forces are introduced -
(1) into hostilities or into situations where imminent
involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the
circumstances;
(2) into the territory, airspace or waters of a foreign nation,
while equipped for combat, except for deployments which relate
solely to supply, replacement, repair, or training of such
forces; or
(3) in numbers which substantially enlarge United States Armed
Forces equipped for combat already located in a foreign nation;

the President shall submit within 48 hours to the Speaker of the
House of Representatives and to the President pro tempore of the
Senate a report, in writing, setting forth -
(A) the circumstances necessitating the introduction of United
States Armed Forces;
(B) the constitutional and legislative authority under which
such introduction took place; and
(C) the estimated scope and duration of the hostilities or
involvement.

The threat has to be an imminent threat to the United States. There isn't one. If obama orders a strike and that is not approved retroactively, obama becomes a criminal.

I think I was taking a shit that night, watching COPS, probably bombed off my ass.
Isn't this the same NSA giving Obama intel that gave GWB intel?

Where are you on the eve of the Syrian War? Jerking off to your Charles Krauthammer nude collection?
