California introduces first-in-nation slavery reparations package
California state lawmakers introduced a slate of reparations bills on Wednesday, including a proposal to restore property taken by “race-based” cases of eminent domain and a potentially unconstitutional measure to provide state funding for “specific groups.”
The package marks a first-in-the-nation effort to give restitution to Black Americans who have been harmed by centuries of racist policies and practices. California’s legislative push is the culmination of years of research and debate, including 111-pages of recommendations issued last year by a task force.
Not included is any type of financial compensation to descendants of Black slaves, a polarizing proposal that has received a cool response from many state Democrats, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.
“While many only associate direct cash payments with reparations, the true meaning of the word, to repair, involves much more,” Assemblymember Lori Wilson, chair of the caucus, said in a statement. “We need a comprehensive approach to dismantling the legacy of slavery and systemic racism.”

just one question: who gets them? how black must you be to be paid? Do the following people get them: Obama, Oprah, Clarence Thomas, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, A rod?

I think you are applying modern sensibilities to the Bible. The Bible has no problem with slavery, in fact it spells out the rules for slavery pretty explicitly, including how to sell your own family members into it.How does God see it?
Well, when the Children of Israel in the Holy Bible were forced to do free slave labor for many years at the hand of Pharaoh, when God was about to set them free God had the Egyptians give them gold, silver, clothing, food, etc.. on their way out of slavery for all those free years they were not paid.
Not only that, but even the children of the children of Israel were covered in gold and silver jewels. I'm guessing they reaped what the dead ancestors did not get.

Democrats did not need the black vote. When most Negroes were denied the right to vote, in violation of the Fifteenth Amendment, the Democrat Party dominated the United States.
The Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendment's were controversial at the time. Many whites who had voted for Abraham Lincoln and who supported the Union cause during the Civil War wanted Negroes to be deported or subjected to second class citizenship.
Black poverty was not reduced in ways that would have been politically sustainable. It was achieved by more and bigger welfare checks and affirmative action programs that forced bosses to hire unqualified Negroes.Of course you do. The rich count on your racism to get Republicans elected.
The War on Poverty worked just fine. The black poverty rate dropped from 55% in 1959 to 17% today.

From 1860 to 1932, Democrats only held the White House for 16 years. Grover Cleveland's two non-consecutive terms (where he barely scraped by in the Popular vote) and Woodrow Wilson's (because the GOP has split into progressive and conservative wings). What supercharged the Democratic vote between 1932 and 1963 was that they openly appealed to black voters, because Republicans hadn't done much for them since emancipation.
