But the point is, you all still benefited from slavery being a thing. Without slavery, and the influx of profits from cash crops like Cotton and Tobacco, the US would never have become a wealthy nation.
If that is true, why has the American South always been the poorest part of the Untied States? The only people in the South who benefited from slavery were the fairly small minority of whites who owned slaves. Family farms could not compete with plantations. Nearly every trade or profession paid more in the free states than the slave states. The great majority of European immigrants moved to the free states, because that was where the economic opportunities were.

The industrial revolution happened in the North. The computer revolution is happening on the West Coast.

What reparations could ever mean more than the hundreds of thousands of dead caused by the war that ended slavery? The nation paid the ultimate price for this horrible mistake.
And we have continued to pay with the presence of a large Negro population. Whenever Negroes move into a white neighborhood they turn it into a crime infested slum full of criminals and welfare recipients.

I was listening to Sean Hannity on the radio a few days ago and he made mention of the fact that Kamala Harris was being sought out as a choice for governor of California. She would fast track reparations in that state. You don't need every state to vote on reparations for it to be law at the federal level. We see that Gavin Newsome wants it passed into law with financial payments as well.

We saw that happen with marijuana and same sex marriage. Only a few states voted for it, and then the federal government votes it into law after that; bypassing all other states.

Most California voters oppose cash reparations for slavery, poll finds

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 11, 2023

The poll of more than 6,000 registered voters found that only 23 percent supported cash reparations, compared to 59 percent who said they opposed them, and 13 percent who had no opinion.

No you aren't. I peg you at about 25.

Nobody believes that you walked ten miles to get home anymore than they believe that you used to call Asian girls "Oriental" and they didn't run screaming.
This is what I wrote, "I would often get off work at 10:00 pm, and walk three miles to get home through what had become 'Little Saigon.' I was perfectly safe."

I have never known an Oriental who minded being called an Oriental. This is a stupid issue dreamed up by white Virtue Signalers.

Sure you were... like your lazy ass could walk 3 miles.

Most Asians I know would be VERY offended by being called "Oriental". Most would even be offended by being called "Asian", they prefer to identify by their nationality.

Sure ok, I will absolutely agree to slavery reparations to any American Black person who was directly and specifically affected by slavery. That would not include policies or hardships unrelated to slavery. Produce one and I will personally pay reparations to that person.

WHy do you keep pretending that slavery's baneful effects stopped when it ended?

I mean, you'd have a point if the end of slavery made everyone equal.

But instead you got 160 years of -

Jim Crow
Lynching
Miscegenation laws
Sundown Laws
Debt Peonage
Racial Profiling
Redlining

Probably more than a few i am forgetting to list here.

Now, I don't think reparations are the answer, or if it is, it should be a token amount with a profound declaration that this was wrong. certainly not the absurd shit that IM2 is proposing.

I'm glad you acknowledge that $100 Trillion dollars in IM2's reparations plan is absurd. I have never argued we don't have a Racist past. But in the 60s and 70s what was Systemic Racism turned into Systemic Favoritism, so I don't believe any award is due anyone now 50 years later.

Being born in America is reparations enough. There are oppressed and marginalized people from all over the world who choose to come live here for that very reason.

For those who still demand reparations, it should come in the form of a one-way ticket back to their ancestral homeland.

None of this is responsible for low black IQ averages and high rates of black crime and welfare dependency. The Jews experienced two thousand years of persecution. Look how successful they are now.

I missed that part about "systematic favoritism". Affirmative Action has benefited white women more than anything else.

I've worked with two affirmative action hires. One for gender, one for race. I've worked with far more people who were sleeping with the boss, drinking buddies with the boss, or related to the boss. And, yes, they were all white.

I've had the benefit of getting two of my last three jobs through connections. That vastly benefits white people.

IM, you suffer from what Robert Heinlein described as the "Socialist Disease in its worst form: the belief the world owes you a living." Yes, there were programs that benefited whites. There are programs that benefit blacks. We don't really have the money to pay for them, but we keep doing them.
Who is world? Isn't the world humans; human beings? A wicked and murderous man asked God, "Am I my brother's keeper?" God turned him into a vagabond giving him some time to figure out his own answer by needing his brothers to be his keeper.

Read em and weep. Reparations are coming and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

California introduces first-in-nation slavery reparations package

California state lawmakers introduced a slate of reparations bills on Wednesday, including a proposal to restore property taken by “race-based” cases of eminent domain and a potentially unconstitutional measure to provide state funding for “specific groups.”

The package marks a first-in-the-nation effort to give restitution to Black Americans who have been harmed by centuries of racist policies and practices. California’s legislative push is the culmination of years of research and debate, including 111-pages of recommendations issued last year by a task force.

Not included is any type of financial compensation to descendants of Black slaves, a polarizing proposal that has received a cool response from many state Democrats, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“While many only associate direct cash payments with reparations, the true meaning of the word, to repair, involves much more,” Assemblymember Lori Wilson, chair of the caucus, said in a statement. “We need a comprehensive approach to dismantling the legacy of slavery and systemic racism.”

We have been giving the goddamn Negroes reparations ever since LBJ decided to get all the sorry shits to vote Democrat for the next 200 years by giving them welfare.

Who is world? Isn't the world humans; human beings? A wicked and murderous man asked God, "Am I my brother's keeper?" God turned him into a vagabond giving him some time to figure out his own answer by needing his brothers to be his keeper.
Um, God did that because Cain murdered his brother, not because he refused to take care of him.

I have no problem with charity or even social programs to help those in need. But the safety net should never become a hammock. Nor are people "owed" reparations, welfare, or even middle-class entitlements. We should have them because we are a compassionate society, but not because people are "owed" them.

IM thinks he is owed reparations because my ancestors owned his ancestors and did terrible things to them. (I"'m saying this in the abstract: none of my ancestors ever owned a slave, as far as I know.) This is kind of bullshit. Especially by his own telling, he's a college-educated professional who has done reasonably well in life.

Do we need to address the racial inequities in our society. Yes. Do we need to saying no uncertain terms that slavery and discrimination were wrong? Yes. Does the world "owe" IM2? Absolutely not.

Or maybe reparations being paid to people who never experienced the harm, by people who never inflicted it, is kind of stupid. I mean, frankly, I'd love to see racist heads explode over reparations, but as a policy, it's just not practical or fair.
The harm of slavery is that of racism, discrimination, oppression, segregation, etc... that was something the white race inflicted on blacks throughout the 20th century. Well into the 20th century schools were segregated with the black schools all being poorly funded as they were not integrated until the mid 70s. With the black schools never being allowed to take any field trips any where during segregation. This same segregation that started with slavery.

Thats just the educational part. I could go on into the more deeper civil rights aspects of the harassing, beating, arresting- the legal and justice parts. It all started during slavery with whites policing blacks way too often falsely accusing blacks. From the slave owner, to the sheriff, to the KKK, to the KKK becoming the actual police officers as they did.

You may not have participated in any kind of slavery. That is understandable. However, the country; the United States of America did so through slavery and segregated laws and it was inhumane. Just like what the United States did to the Japanese was inhumane. Did the United States pay the Japanese Americans reparations for the inhuman treatment it inflicted on them? Yes, America did pay them reparations. It is the nation that is still at fault, and in debt to African Americans for the atrocities of slavery, free slave labor, and all other inhuman civil rights violations they suffered in connection to slavery. Both that of their own, and that of their ancestors. Those who suffered in the segregated schools are still alive today. They are in their 50s and older. They are not dead, they are alive.

How much money did Japanese Americans receive in reparations?

The legislation admitted that government actions were based on “race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership.” By 1992, the U.S. government eventually disbursed more than $1.6 billion (equivalent to $3,500,000,000 in 2020) in reparations to 82,219 Japanese Americans who had been interned.

just one question: who gets them? how black must you be to be paid? Do the following people get them: Obama, Oprah, Clarence Thomas, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, A rod?

Free labor is of Satan the devil because he is a thief. He comes to kill, steal, and destroy.

How does God see it?

Well, when the Children of Israel in the Holy Bible were forced to do free slave labor for many years at the hand of Pharaoh, when God was about to set them free God had the Egyptians give them gold, silver, clothing, food, etc.. on their way out of slavery for all those free years they were not paid.

Not only that, but even the children of the children of Israel were covered in gold and silver jewels. I'm guessing they reaped what the dead ancestors did not get.

Exodus 12:35-40

  • The children of Israel did not leave Egypt destitute. In addition to their own possessions, the terrified Egyptians had bestowed upon them gifts of gold and silver, and clothing, in an effort to hasten their departure. Thus God made His promise to Abraham, that his descendants would leave their exile with great riches.
Psalm 105:37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
