There are plenty of good people just trying to live their lives and make sense of their world and their place in it.

There are a lot more that have been taught to be afraid and that believing this obvious nonsense is the only way out. The conflict of reason vs myth has driven many mad. Being told that you have to accept all this hocus pocus and when all your brain cells are screaming NONSENSE you are told to suck it up and have "faith". This is more like the crime of rape where the perp threatens the child to keep this perverted secret OR ELSE!

People are not born psychopaths. Fear is what drives the mind mad. Being forced to accept horrible circumstance like when a creepy man tells you that you must believe something insane or you will go to hell and the only way to eternal bliss after death is to live this obvious lie.

All Christians and Muslims are somewhat mad. You are forced to accept that you must play a part in this crazy game or when you die you will suffer for eternity. Everyone knows that if you are presented with the same kind of "facts" and made to accept them from any source you would reject them at once. We all know what a fraud is. But when our elderly relatives cling to these beliefs because to reject them leaves them with no other option but nothingness it scares the shit out of them. They cannot take that chance and accept death as a finality of who they are. It is easy to sell the idea of heaven when the alternative is nothing. To most "nothing" is worse than hell. The brain stops functioning and there is no happiness or pain. You do not sit there outside yourself and wonder what is next. There is no white light to guide you to some other reality that only can be taken in this vehicle you call your spirit. It is ALL made up crap.

THIS is ALL we get. THIS is as good and as bad as you will ever experience. After THIS is NOTHING. Not you experiencing nothing. There will be no "you" to experience anything when you die.

The only good news is that there will be no "you" to feel like a complete fool. At least you will be spared that.

You are no different than the ancient Egyptians wasting most of your life preparing for the big trip up the river and wasting all of your resources financing the preparation paying for mummification and huge burial vaults AKA tombs in pyramids. The local churches also respond locally whenever a family suffers the loss of their homes through a fire or flood. It was a religious group that went to Darfur to render aid to the female rape victims over there.

Such aid and assistance requires staffing, organization, and funding. Without the churches and their members there will be a huge void left when they are gone. I have yet to see with my own eyes an eighteen wheeler with signage indicating it is the relief instrument of an atheist or agnostic organization on hand at the site of any natural disaster offloading relief and humanitarian supplies.

I guess there are existing also lots of buddhists and members of other religions too. A key for my understanding of this world was it, when a Chinese said in TV about the times of culture revolution: "And then we let do him self-critics, until he died". Most people of our own cultures today speak nice about ideas like "Unity, Freedom, Brotherhood" (Christian values by the way) and forget sentences of our own histroy like: "We will hang the last priest with the intestinal of the last noble". In those days, when this happened, no one gave the christian religion any chance any longer, while murder became a daily business.
