Record 93,626,000 Americans not in labor force

but when we had a real unemployment level of 5.4 per cent under Bush, Nancy Pelosi crapped her pants on live TV as she was bitchin about it!
WTF?? Are you saying 5.4% unemployment under Bush was real but not real under Obama??
and why does the loony left make it sound like we were losing 700,000 jobs a month under Bush? uhm, last two months of his presidency? its not as if we already knew thay Pelosi and Reid(with the help of Barney/Frank) purposely collapsed the economy by giving away homes to the poor so they would have power come 2009.

Nice to see back then the Rich were spending some of their newfound money that they got with the Bush tax breaks but after a couple years he started hoarding it and it wasn't stimulating the economy at all but they said it would

I seem to remember George Bush having to send us $300-$700 each just to keep himself out of a recession a couple times. Oh but if you were a millionaire you got a couple hundred thousand dollars in stimulus money. How did that work out for us? How did that work out for the debt?

Republicans liked using 911 as a reason for the recession but what hurt us more than 9 11 was Bush's policies he implemented after 9/11. 911 was a devastating one day event that did hurt our economy for a year George Bush policies hurt us for 10 years and counting.

And we cant even fix all of his mistakes because of GOP obstruction
Republicans dont use 9-11 for the recession, real republicans know that the recession was a product of Bill Clinton forcing banks to make risky loans to the scum of our country. when the loans failed, so did the economy.
that recession was democrat owned. Not trying to confuse people but it actually started under Jimmy Carter

Make that 5.3% unemployment
It's even far less than that. An estimated $2 trillion is earned by folks in a shadow economy. Those are folks not reporting their income who appear in BLS statistics as not in the labor force among the 93 million. With the average income being around $50K/annual, that translates into an estimated 40 million of the 93 million who are not in the labor force are actually employed.
oh im sure there are millions who are making money under the table, there is plenty of "Off The Books" employment out there, I wouldnt even be surprised if prostitution was one of them. Construction has to be one of them, contractors cant keep up with the demand in most red states.
I'm certain those are some of the jobs reported off the books. The point is there could be as many as 40 million people who are not in the labor force who are actually working. The unemoyment rate is actually lower than 5.3%.

And you never answered my question .... were you saying the unemployment rate of 5.4% was real under Bush but not real under Obama?
under Bush we maintained a pretty healthy unemployment level, all hell broke loose after 9/11, but as we were going into 2002/2003 things gradaully did turn around and heading into 2004 jobs seem plentiful. i was in hospitality and it seemed like every restaurant/hotel/country club was never fully staffed, especially in parts of Florida. and that was a regular story in the news. Employers could never get enough help. then came Barney Frank, making banks give loans to people who couldnt afford them, thats when it all crashed. Unemployment level was always around 5.0-5.5 during the peak years.
Hospitality is the worst industry to judge an economy on. How much do the waitresses the maids front desk housekeeping make? Manufacturing is the most important and Republicans sent all those jobs overseas
it was one of the factors, but retail was a major factor, of course high end products/appliances/home improvement was also a major factor. Its when see the demand for Refridgerators and Stoves(etc etc) decline, thats when we are in trouble.

The government is manipulating things and it's not making things better. It's just the far left carrying out their plans to transform us. Hasn't been this fucked up since Carter.

"Lastly, this statement is very disconcerting, "it’s very indicative that the market will expect a move by the Fed certainly this year." If we are sitting back waiting for Janet Yellin to make a determination regarding our economy, then we truly do not have a free market/free enterprise opportunity economy.

Ladies and gents, we are operating in an artificial economy based on monetary manipulations from a group which operates outside of the scrutiny of the legislative branch, Congress. The best means to achieve economic growth and stability is not by the whims of one Janet Yellin. I just hate to remind you of the fifth plank in Karl Marx’s communist manifesto: "Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly."

Our economy is made strong by the principles and resulting policies that afford individual investment, innovation, and ingenuity — that is the indomitable character of the American entrepreneurial spirit. That is what must be unleashed — not the preferences of Janet Yellin. There is a very hard awakening coming, it will not be pretty, and I’m not being a conspiracy theorist. It’s just common sense.

We are living in an Orwellian world of economic manipulation. Americans are being forced out of the workforce and Big Brother shouts over the megaphone that the unemployment rate is lower.

Perhaps Jonathan Gruber was on to something — we are just that stupid. Well, some are anyway…"

Gruber was right about many people being stupid, well, ignorant anyway. Too many have no understanding of the economy and all too many people are unconcerned with the creation of jobs that they were never interested in to begin with. When we have a growing number of entitled wimps who have no idea how the economy works and are only wanting to receive that check from government, you know we are in serious trouble and can't expect a damn bit of help from any of the entitled people. They are a load and will never help the rest of us carry that load. Getting heavy, isn't it?

How many Americans are "supposed" to be in the workforce out of 330 million people?

Are children expected to work? Young mothers? Invalids? Retirees?

What number will make you happy?

Another Low-Info post by RW.

The Civilian Population used to calculate workforce statistics includes people 16 years and older. Children below the legal working age are excluded.

One incredibly sad fact of Obamanomics is the drop in employement for 16-24:

Over the past year the number of working-age Americans who have dropped from the civilian labor force has risen by 1.5 million. During Obama's presidency, the population of these Americans increased by nearly 16 million — while the labor force grew by under 3 million.

The labor force participation rate for those 16 and over dropped from 65.7% at the start of the Obama presidency to just 62.6% last month. If this rate would have remained steady, the labor force would have been nearly 14 million stronger.

....

This is partially explained by baby boomers retiring — at the pace of nearly 10,000 a day. But the largest reduction in the workforce has been among those under the age of 29. Today the labor force participation rate for the 16-24 age group is 55.1%, down from 60.8% a decade ago and from more than 66% back in the late 1990s.

Millennials continue to exit the labor market — and millions have never even held a job.

Why are workers disappearing? Minimum-wage increases are pricing the young out of the workforce. The myriad welfare programs are effectively paying the young not to work....

That's why the U-6 rate, which is the real unemployment rate, has been so high during Obama's presidency. It was much lower under Bush, under Clinton, and under Reagan.
U6 has dropped five percent under Obama

That's because millions of people have completely given up looking for work and are no longer included in the statistic.

Shadow Stats uses a consistent method that eliminates the games that have been played to make UE look better than it really is.

To the contrary, hospitality, travel and lodging, and leisure is often a very good vein by which to take the pulse of the economy.

1 - Eating out is America's single greatest use of expendable income.
2 - Vacationing is one of the most common large scale expenditures people make
3 - Many other major economic activities are closely tied to travel. Weddings are a big economic piece, almost always involve travel and lodging. Many business activities require frequent travel and lodging. Job seekers often consume travel and lodging services when conducting interviews, and when relocating to accept new positions. (During bad economic times, less people seek new employment, and have few obtain interviews.)

They operate outside the scrutiny of common sense.

But in their defense, thieves have been doing that for a VERY long time. Ya see such people reject the objectivity that is essential to truth, trust, morality and justice.

What a moron. The age range is 16 to 24 years old. You're getting more and more desperate, bub.

The Obama Economy is where it is today, supposedly Booming for one reason! Uhm, Borrowing 8 Trillion Dollars? Can you imagine what the economy would look like today if we didnt borrow any money! Been to Greece latley? Why didnt Obama just lower everyones taxes and lower Capital gains to 10%? not 40 !!!!!

The middle class is less and less able to afford such luxuries as they are squeezed with stagnant wages, lack of jobs, ObamaCare Costs, and under reported inflation.

We'd have 15M more people employed and 4% plus GDP growth.

Reduction in the workforce by the 16-24 range is not surprising, nor should it be concerning. That's what's going to happen when you have fewer high school dropouts and more people going to college.

around here ( Annapolis Md. ) the reason that the 16 to 24 year olds cant find work is because of the illegals that have been brought here by the democrats taking up those low intellect starter jobs.
