Rand Paul detained by TSA

The 4th Amendment does indeed apply to the TSA and screenings:

The Fourth Amendment does NOT apply.

Previous SCOTUS rulings have concluded that it is more important to have a police state than a free country.

The "Court" has - somehow - concluded that FORCEFULLY drawing blood from an individual then using the results against the individual is constitutional.

SCHMERBER v . CALIFORNIA

You said ten years is up, time to release everyone at GITMO. I just read the thread. You did say either put them on trial or free them.

The idea is that the accused are entitled to a fair trial. Holding innocent men indefinitely without a trial is un-American. Either try them or let them go

It's the basis of habeus corpus

Remember when I brought up the fact that if we let these suspects go we're putting Ameran civilians lives at risk? You said something to they effect of that's the price we pay for freedom. How then can you expain the TSA?
The problem is no one can say which of the Guantanamo inmates are a threat, if any, and how much of a threat they represent in comparison with any number of real threats who are walking around free or who might be living among us right now -- as were the 9/11 jihadists.

If you'll think back to the time when BushCo was still pitching the WMD hype during the early days of the Iraq invasion, he was paying $10,000 cash rewards in Iraq and Afghanistan for information leading to the arrest of "terrorists." We learned that innocent people were being denounced as terrorists by neighbors who didn't like them or by personal enemies as a means of settling old scores, or just randomly accusing others for no reason other than collecting the reward.

Some time ago one of the more popular on-scene journalists in the Middle East (whose name escapes me now) said we really don't know which, if any, of the detainees are guilty of anything or represent any real threat to the U.S. Many of them were captured by our troops because they were armed and presumed to belong to resistance groups, which in my language makes them freedom fighters, not "terrorists." They are doing what most of us would be doing if the situation were reversed.

So unless we have some substantive cause to hold these men, how long can we continue to detain people without charge? For the rest of their lives? What kind of madness is that? We might as well just kill them.

So what is the latest? Is Rand Paul the media whore that he seems to be?

I'm confused, and will have to go back and read about him "on the issues". He is a Republican; right? And while he was not in US congress at the time, I seem to recall that most GOP were overwhelming for the PATRIOT Act-which surely had some influence on this. So what his gripe is, I will have to research.

He needs to learn a thing or two from his father. Yes, I happen to like Ron Paul. Call me crazy.

From the way I see it, there are two types of Republicans that hate the TSA.

There are the hardcore libertarians, who think it's 4th amendment violation.

And then there are neo-cons who hate it because Obama is President, and believe that only Muslims should be searched.

I have respect for the first type...

Not all Republicans support the welfare/warfare state.

They support a different kind of welfare. Corporate welfare which is just as bad

I don't see anything wrong with being a media whore to bring attention to something that you feel strongly about. Others don't mind using the media to attack so why not use it to your advantage and bring light to injustice? Let the people decide which side of the fence they are on.

Wake up Dummies! Don't you understand that your Government has to take your rights away in order to protect your rights? WTF are you silly people not getting about that? Big Brother knows what's best for you. Now STFU!...Or else.

As someone who has flown over a million miles, I prefer to know that my fellow passengers have been through security screening

And we'd all certainly want to know that "paulitician" had been screened. Thoroughly.
