Raising the minimum wage again? Fucking brilliant!

$4 bucks a week on one employee. On 10 emoloyees, it's $40. On 100 employees, it's $400.

Enough to hire one more person.

If you got a hundred workers in your company, chances are not a lot of them are minimum wagers.

Bullshit. Not if you have a handful of fast food franchises.

Fast food chains like McDonalds do NOT pay minimum wages to their employees....in fact, they pride themselves in paying more than minimum wage....and more than likely their competitors do NOT pay minimum wages either, in order to find good employees.

Mcdonalds was one of the higher paying employers when I was a teen working....

Then exactly who does the minimum wage help?

Are you more compassionate because you can get someone a $10/cent an hour raise?

the citizens within these states got this vote on referendum.....whether I agree with them or not, does not matter....it is a State issue....not really mine.

All I am saying is that the 10 cent's an hour will NOT have an effect on the economy in those states as the op inferred.

It does if you have lots of minimum wage employees.

I had read a few years ago that less than 6% of all workers in the us were minimum wage or below, for waitresses and the such...this was nation wide....don't know if these states are substantionally higher than the national average or not....but if they are at the national average, it is minimal.

Which sort of obviates the claim that a federally mandate MW is necessary, doesn't it?

And let's just print up more money to pay it!

State Minimum Wage Increases Could Boost Stalled Federal Push - FoxNews.com

ANY minimum wage is the worst thing you can do to an economy. It ultimately ends up beating down the very ones it is intended to lift.

Economic ignorance at its finest!
If the minimum wage were to be abolished, American wages would resemble China's. It would be a corporation's wet dream for there to be no minimum wage. They'd maximize profits without having to give their workers pesky things such as decent pay, health insurance, sick days and other costly benefits. Oh wait, those on the bottom rung in America don't get any of that shit and can barely sustain themselves because of inflating food, rent and gas prices.

We've entered the new gilded age. It's a haven for neo-Robber Barons.

Uh sorry, WRONG.

I remember someone trying to use this argument before and I can't for the life me figure out why no one thinks before having the balls to actually say such nonsense.

It is observably simply false. If businesses based what they pay only on what they are legally required to pay, why doesn't every business pay minimum wage now? After all that really is all they are legally required to compensate us with. They aren't required to give me paid time off, or offer a health plan. If, as you are arguing, 'evil' business will only pay people what they are legally required to, then that ought to be what they're doing right now.......but they're not.

Why is that? Because businesses don't operate that way. There is a market for skilled labor like any other market. The more valuable your skill the more a business will compensate you for it. THAT is how compensation is determined, not by some government mandated minimum.

Total crap.

Employers will pay higher wages just to get the best employees that they can, regardless of what any artificially set minimum is. On top of that, fringe benefits and "sick" (i.e. slacker) days are entirely irrelevant to the topic.

Oh, and get some new strawmen and stereotypes to peddle your socialistic crapola...The Gilded Age and Robber Barons crap is sooooooooo stale.

Ever walked into a Wal-Mart or a McDonalds? What do you figure these poor souls slaving away in a grease factory would make if minimum wage were to be eradicated?

What kind of alternate universe are you living on? The wage disparity has grown markedly in the past three decades. CEOs rake in more cash than ever before in history while the middle class and working poor's pay has stagnated; even dropped.

Deny that and you're delusional.

Will Wal-Mart greeters make more just because CEOs make less?
That's not the point. If a company is paying a person an unlivable, stagnating wage while their profits continue to rise, somethings direly messed up.

Your problem is all of your faulty premises.

One, your employers purpose in compensating you is NOT to provide ANY level of standard of living to you. Get that fucked up notion out your head. They are paying based on the value of the skill you are providing them. Whether that skill is of enough value to them such that it will pay for the standard of living YOU want is and should be entirely irrelevant to the employer.

Secondly, there is no correlation between a companies profits increasing and the value of the skills you provide for them. Just because profits when up for a year doesn't mean what you do for them is suddenly became more valuable.

Most of those employees are making in excess of the MW as well....Next strawman?

Hmmm...The so-called "wage disparity" (corporate types don't work for wages, BTW) has increased markedly, even though we've expropriated and redistributed in excess of $10 trillion from the producers, to feather the nests of the unproductive, in a vain attempt to "level the playing field"??

You're the one who's delusional if you believe those two facts are unrelated.
