This is an old idea that is still as fresh and vital as ever. . . .

Abstract:

A voucher system that would enable parents to choose freely the schools that their children attend is the most feasible way to improve elementary and secondary education in the US. Such a voucher system will encourage privatization of a sizeable fraction of educational services. That will unleash the drive, imagination and energy of competitive free enterprise to revolutionize the education process. The competition will force government schools to improve in order to retain their clientele. Except for a small group who have a vested interest in the present system, everyone would win: parents, students, teachers, taxpayers, private entrepreneurs and, above all, the residents of the central cities.

Where did you get the idea that Christians are stupider than the heathen, Augustine? That certainly wasn't the opinion of Augustine of Hippo , the African-Roman author of "City of God".

Do it, but then of course the private schools must accept anyone with a voucher, same as the public schools. Then we will see what's what.

Fed out of it. We don't need the Board of Education.

States control their own schools..........They pay for it.......NO FEDERAL FUNDS......and keep it as local as possible as intended by the Founding Fathers.

Teach the basic skills needed to survive after school, then Trades and College prep as always.

That would be a massive improvement.

And, where the money will come from? The private sector?

The education department receives a certain amount of money to meet its budget.

Giving vouchers means the government must use from the funds destined to public schools in order to give them to the private schools. That is not fair. It is clear authorities want public schools to fail at all cost.

Without the total funds received as previous years, public schools won't be capable to compete with private schools.

I totally disagree with those vouchers if the funds will come from the money destined to public schools. The government must pull the funds from somewhere else, lets say, from contracts with the project "Mars colonization" which is just crap to the square, or terminating contracts will all contractors in Afghanistan, and so forth.

No, that will solve nothing. Part of the entire problem with our system, is that it accepts anyone.

No other school system in the world does that. In Japan, Finland, nearly anywhere else... you don't pass the tests, they kick you out. In Finland, if you even just behave badly they kick you out. You end up going to a small school for problem children. You can't go to the top public high schools or middles schools anymore, because you don't behave.

Any system that follows "no child left behind" will suck.

We should have a complete free-market system, with vouchers. You should have a minority of public schools that take anyone. Those are for the people who drop out of any other system.

But all the rest of the schools need complete and total ability to set their own prices, and have their own entrance requirements.

If you want to go to the elite schools, you pay the voucher, and more. Whatever they decide. You go to an average school, you just need the voucher. You want in, you need to pass the test. If you can't pass the test, then you don't go. You go to a trade school, and learn flooring, or pipe fitting, or something.

This is how the situation will improve.

Vouchers is not a complete pay of the quote asked by private schools but solely a partial payment, the parents of the student will have to pay the other part.

It sounds attractive to many, but poor people can't afford those private schools even with the provided voucher.

The only thing the government will create is to easily identify the students by the income of the parents.

Hey! There he goes a poor family kid... he is going to Pelosi Elementary Public School.

Yes, let's just eliminate a free and proper public education for everyone whose parent's combined income is not 6 figures at least!
Schools are making homosexual experimenters out of the kids and teaching girls to get abortions.

STDs are out of control like syphillis (below).

That's all the good that sex ed did, because sexual diseases came about as more children learned about sex and decided to try it out instead of waiting until they got married. And they tried it so much, most kids got stds, and they didn't even know what's wrong with them.

And because their teachers taught them tolerance of LBGTs many of them got stds from same-sex members who talked them into trying a relationship with them. Kids who were in every sense normal are now becoming members of the gay community complete with a lot of problems that causes at home.
Education is destroying childrens' innocence. It's time to privitize and keep the government out of people's bedrooms.

Why did you post that completely unrelated garbage in response to my post?

If you want a private school education for your kids, pay for it yourself!

I agree that parents should pay for their own children's education. However, the government should provide deductions for loans for parents who might not have the scratch available to pony up for tuition.

Unless a kid has a good foundation in K-12, he isn't going to be able to succeed that well in college, making that effort pointless.

I want someone to point out where, in the constitution, it has the power to mandate an education.
