The White House on Monday condemned Israel parliament for passing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's preferred sweeping judicial reforms that sparked protests throughout the country, a further sign of how President Joe Biden is trying to exert his own influence from afar.

"It is unfortunate that the vote today took place with the slimmest possible majority," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

But a majority nonetheless, hence democracy

That's how a parliamentary system works, and under their Constitution Netanyahu's coalition did nothing wrong.

Unlike our system, the minority party has almost ZERO power in a parliamentary system, hence the party in power and the ministers they appoint are considered "the government". Our system has a separate executive, which makes "the government" independent from the legislative branch.

I believe Israel's constitution also doesn't really call for a truly independent judiciary like our Constitution does.

Thus the bitching and moaning by the opponents over the act, not the constitutionality of the act.

LOL your party wants to pack the Supreme Court. The Democrats check every box on Fascism.
SCOTUS is another example of democrats hating democracy

Under the rules, people elect a President to appoint judges.

Then when the people choose poorly, according to the DNC, then they want to subvert the process and take over by packing the court like FDR attempted to do.

Democracy is only good if it empowers the DNC. If not, it must be destroyed.

Biden has no business pontificating from his imaginary, moral high ground. He needs to clean up his highly cluttered backyard before concerning himself with others'.

Democrats are always the moral high ground.

They control the language with PC and inventing and changing terms and pronouns, etc. to suit their agendas, and they control the media via talking points or ignoring their own moral rot.

They deny the very existence of right and wrong, but at the same time, convince everyone that not being PC is the ultimate evil.

Some nerve talking about slim majorities given how the Senate operates. You would think that the dems have some sort of mandate the way they force shit through with Cumswalla breaking ties.

They are the ones who always want to rule by the majority. A one vote majority? They say, sure, a majority is a majority. But, they always gripe about it when it is something they are against. They believe the majority rules only on the agendas they prefer, otherwise the majority shouldn't rule.

The Supreme Court protects the rights of the people against an oppressive government

You would think that Israel understands that

Yet they pass things in the senate by one vote, who isnt even a Senator. Disingenuous dumbfucks.

Israel doesn’t have a Constitution, that’s part of of the problem. Without an independent judicial system, there are no checks and balances on the legislative branch. Our judiciary is independent but constrained by the Constitutional. What is happening in Israel is not good for Democracy.

But perfectly legal under their system.

The complaint is it isn't good for one side of the political spectrum.

Sorry, but the term "reasonableness" doesn't have a place in judicial proceedings, it's far too broad of a term, and far too open to interpretation.

Isnt good for the citizens who have no means of recourse against an oppressive government

This is about much higher level policy and governmental issues than ones the citizens will deal with.

The courts are still operating, and still independent as much as they can be in the Israeli system, the've just had their standards changed, as is allowable under their system.

Yes, it is, and that has exposed a major flaw in not having a Constitution.

I think you have it wrong there. It isn’t “one side” by any means. The dissent is coming from a broad swath of the Israeli public including their military.

And what about the parliament being able to overrule any court ruling? Selecting judges? There is no Constitution to set limits on the parliament or judiciary. If there were…you wouldn’t need “reasonable”.

Are you saying there cant be bad Constitutions? lol
We have one, a damn good one, and your precious duopoly shit on it every day.
Funny that.
