"The Tea Party / Republicans are reported to be energized, angry and mobilized; ready to hand the Democrats a walloping in November and take back control of the House and the Senate. That's what we've been hearing from the media for the past several months. Every primary is assigned some special significance: "a referendum against Obamacare", "anti-incumbency fever", "a proxy war", between Palin and Huckabee or between Clinton and Obama, as if that's who the public was actually voting for.

How does the media hype stack up to what actually happened? 98% of incumbents were nominated, not exactly "anti-incumbency fever". The "proxy war" was a fictional media event. It only illustrated who was most effective at getting exposure, not a predictor of outcomes or what they meant.

We have become a very impatient people with a national case of attention deficit disorder. If what we hope will happen doesn't happen right away, we become disinterested. If our fantasy isn't realized we become disappointed. The "enthusiasm gap" is another phrase for apathy. Look at the alternative. Apathy doesn't win elections, votes do."

Think about how much FUN, we had, watching "conservatives" in '08!!

The problem is, the vast majority of progressives don't have anyone to vote for.

Some may have a good third party candidate in their race, but voting Democrat isn't going to help them achieve anything they want as they've demonstrated for the last 4 years.

Progressive voters aren't apathetic like it's some natural state or they don't care. They're apathetic because Democratic politicians have induced apathy by trying to appeal to them for votes then backing out of every major promise on policy and in a ton of instances, continuing or expanding the worst of the Bush administration. Voting for a Democrat is a vote against their best interests and in favor of things they despise. The lesser of two evils is still quite evil.

The problem isn't progressive voters but a lack of progressive candidates to vote for. The solution to that isn't for progressives to go to the polls and continue to act like the Democrat's reliable lap dog who'll vote D regardless of whether party politicians respect and adhere to their agenda and desires, the solution is for progressives to no longer be a guaranteed vote and force Democrats to start acting like progressives if they want the left's vote because they've been getting it without producing for decades now.

What you suggest will only produce more of the same and in the long run leave us no better off than even if the worse of the two evils takes over now.
