A truly positive effect of the Bible is that it pretty much sets out the 'do-don't do' rules that people have worked out over millennia.

A truly negative effect of Hegel/Marx doctirine is that there is no basis for the Bible, and, as a result, individuals decide for each and every oneself what is right and wrong. And that is easily a rationalized corruption of right and wrong.

1. " When morality became privatized, the questions “what is right” became “what is right for me.” Feelings... became the arbiters of behavior. Rather than traditional taboos, only religiously based moral judgment was deemed taboo. The harm caused to abandoned spouses or children by adultery or desertion- harm that can be objectively documented in rates of ill health, depression, educational underachievement, criminal behavior- was all but ignored, while damage done to people’s feelings by condemnation of their adultery or desertion was considered unforgiveable."
"The World Turned Upside Down," Melanie Phillips, chapter 14

a. If there is no God, there is no good or evil; people are still left to our reason, our subjective opinion and our cultural experience. Feelings matter more than truth. 'What is right' takes a backseat to 'what is right for me.'

b. What atheists who speak in terms of good and evil have done is appropriated religious dialogue for themselves. They have kidnapped our way of speaking and said what was rooted in God doesn't need God any longer.

c. Even in the 19th century, as religious conviction waned, the warnings were there. Ivan Karamazov, in “The Brothers Karamazov,” exclaimed ‘if God does not exist, then everything is permitted.’

2. Classical liberalism, the optimistic doctrine that gave us liberty, democracy, progress, was a moral project. It held that human society could always better itself by encouraging the good and diminishing the bad. It rested, therefore, on a very clear understanding that there was a higher cause than self-realization: that there were such things as right and wrong and that the former should be preferred over the latter. But the belief that autonomous individuals had the right to make subjective judgment about what was right for them in pursuit of their unchallengeable entitlement to happiness destroyed that understanding. Progressives interpreted liberty as license, thus destroying the moral rules that make freedom a virtue."
Phillips, Op.Cit.

3. While the Judeo-Christian society labels actions as ‘good’ or ‘evil,’ due to morality and/or self-control, the Left sees the results as due to material inequality, i.e., violent crime due to poverty. .For the Left, the battle is not between good and evil....it is between rich and poor. The result for Liberals is that equality trumps morality.....and everything else!

The Left has been far more interested in fighting material inequality than tyranny, which is why Lenin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, Castro, etc., tend to have the support of Leftists around the world.
Dennis Prager

4. A distinguishing characteristic of Liberals and Leftists is an aversion to recognizing or acknowledging evil and its permutations, i.e., communism. On another level, it explains the Left’s dislike for capitalism, a system that produces winners and losers, a painful fact that the Left would rather not see.

a. Michael Moore tells CNN's Anderson Cooper that capitalism “is an evil system set up to benefit the few at the expense of the many…. "So, what system do you want?" Anderson Cooper asked Moore. "Well there's no system right now that exists. We're going to create that system.” Michael Moore We re Going To Replace Capitalism As We Know It RealClearPolitics

5. If there's no God - making ourselves the source of ethics for everybody, or declaring that nobody can be the source of ethics for anybody, and therefore morality is, again, purely subjective. Abortion may be legal, and a woman’s right….but this doesn’t it is ethically right.

The Greeks believed in a version of same in which they placed deformed babies on the hillside. The reason I use the Greek example of ugly children is not because we do it today, but because they had reason on their side. Reason supports a lot of things, as for example, a very liberal position on abortion. If there is no God, "Love your neighbor as yourself" is just a good idea. That's why it is written, incidentally, in Leviticus, "Love your neighbor as yourself, I am God." I, God, tell you to be decent to other people.
Dennis Prager, a lecture.

The Left is content to fight imaginary evil, such as carbon emissions and second hand smoke.

In point of fact there is no good or evil. Just actions and consequences. What we describe as good and evil is usually highly subjective. As with soldiers killing wars vs terrorists killing in wars. If a terrorist who kills soldiers via suicide bomb is "evil" then why isn't a soldier who drops bombs from a plane also evil? Rather neither act is evil, nor good, simply an action followed by a consequence.

Can we "quote" you on that?

In point of fact there is no good or evil. Just actions and consequences. What we describe as good and evil is usually highly subjective. As with soldiers killing wars vs terrorists killing in wars. If a terrorist who kills soldiers via suicide bomb is "evil" then why isn't a soldier who drops bombs from a plane also evil? Rather neither act is evil, nor good, simply an action followed by a consequence.
Following your logic, how can any consequence be valid/justified?

Look who's here! My morning chuckle!
The concept of irony has spent the entirety of its existence waiting for you to come along and give it meaning.

I post " When morality became privatized, the questions “what is right” became “what is right for me.”

An you rush in to prove it!

Don't have to justify things, that's only for others' benefit and our relationships with them. I don't seek others' approval for what I do, nor attempt to justify anything to others.

You don't post, you plagiarize. Have yet to see you post anything from your own mind. You're an intellectual leech.

Not talking about you...talking about society...how can societal consequences be created in a world without objective evil?

1. Wow!

I really wounded you, huh?

Great....that was my intention.

You are a low-class fool....and I never mind exposing that.

2. I never plagiarize. I source, link, and document.
But....you lie.

3. "Have yet to see you post anything from your own mind. "
Another lie.
Everything I post is from my thoughts, my mind, my experience.

Now...write soon....I love smashing the custard pie in your face.
And...it is an improvement.

again, reading PC"s screeds makes me wonder if she's married to Jack Chick.

Uh, dude, the Nazis and the Islamists totally based their "morality" on belief in a sky fairy.

Fact is, the bible totally endorses all sorts of evil actions, including genocide. Run into any Amelikites lately? Nope. The Israelites genocided the shit out those fuckers. And God was upset with Saul for incomplete genocide. He totally killed the Amalekite women and children, but he let some of the livestock live!

As for Sodom and Gommorah, so let me get this straight. They all deserved to die for the butt sex, but God had to totally swoop down and send angels to save Lot, a "Righteous" man who offered his daughters up for Gang Rape before having drunken sex with them himself.

PC has a point but in order to be consistent it's important we follow all the entire Bible and not just the parts we use against those we disagree with. Let's see if we can follow this Holy Book on family relations and whatnot . If any of you have sinned, please follow instructions noted below or ask a friend or family to perform action.

Great way to get rid of lots of congressmen.
"If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death." (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

How old does this have to be enforced at? Lots of children smack out when little? Any age limit in that book on the family? My granddaughter hit me at 14 months, do grandpas count too?
"Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death." (Exodus 21:15 NAB)

Jeez, this sure would control the population, and solve lots of court cases, my brother and partner of twenty five years may complain though.
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

Thank goodness only priest's daughter get the hot seat.
"A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death." (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)

Suppose it was you who broke this scared thing, should you both be stoned. Is it OK if you marry the un-virgin or does that not count? Hard questions here, ask Mike.
"But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst." (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)

These Bible folks sound a bit like Union organizers? No work on Sunday, huh. Sound like communists to me. Imagine the stampede at Walmart after they announce the slaying out in the parking lot! "The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.'" (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)

Is this retroactively possible? I mean suppose you find out after the sons have flew the coup? We need to keep track of everyone. Looks like we'll need an ID card with parental information included.
"Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants." (Isaiah 14:21 NAB)

All around good advice, why fight over your inheritance, get rid of them before the arguments begin?
"Today you have been ordained for the service of the LORD, for you obeyed him even though it meant killing your own sons and brothers. Because of this, he will now give you a great blessing." (Exodus 32:26-29 NLT)

The Long Island Medium's show may be cancelled like those duck guys.
"A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death." (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

I'm sure most are guilty of this at least once, maybe you have to do it a dozen times of more, you think.
"All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense." (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)

Here's the cure for juvenile delinquency. Forty two of the yet.
"From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces." (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB)

I'm sure there are lots more sensible injunctions in the good book, let's find them all so PC can tell us more.

To PC and JROC...

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your posts, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual "uncleanliness" - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there degrees of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I'm confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

again, reading PC"s screeds makes me wonder if she's married to Jack Chick.

Still no reference to the thread?

So...you have a new hobby, huh?

I've gotten to the point where I Just consider the content of your threads to be batshit crazy and have just moved on by mocking you by posting pictures from Chick Tracks, which give you the same nutritional value with twice the humor.
