Porn actor with HIV wants mandatory condom use in porn films

It would actually kinda suck, but... yeah, I think it's fundamentally a good idea. Considering that the average age people watch porn for the first time is 11 nowadays, forty million people watch it every day, you know, you can make a pretty clear case of negative externalities developing from that. It's not always just about the people directly involved in the transaction.

It'd be nice to at least try and sexualize the use of condoms, considering they are life saving devices for most sexually active people. If porn can sexualize donkeys, why not condoms?

The few times I watched porn, seems like the male 'actor' withdrew at the last minute and came on the outside. What is it with that? Is that to prove he really came?

I'm sure that, outside of having sex on camera for money, this guy lives a chaste life. :eusa_whistle:

So, what do you all think? Should porn film sex be safe sex?

BBC - Newsbeat - Porn actor calls for condom use after getting HIV

An adult film actor in LA who has HIV says he wishes he had known more about the risks involved in having unprotected sex.

Derek Burts was told he was infected in October and all the actors he'd worked with since his last negative HIV test were said to be quarantined and tested.

He says he caught the infection in Florida during a gay porn shoot.

But a clinic released a statement claiming he got it "through private personal activity".

The porn industry in California, which is the largest of its kind, became increasingly worried.

Steve Hirsch is the founder of Vivid Entertainment, the world's biggest adult film production company.

He says: "If you mandate condoms, this industry will go underground immediately."

The argument is that many viewers don't like seeing latex on screen because it's not sexy.

Some actors have said they don't enjoy the feeling of wearing a condom and it puts them off their performance.

'Very dangerous'
But doctors say the risk of catching a Sexually transmitted infection (STI) are higher for those working in porn and wearing a condom shouldn't be an option but compulsory.

Dr Robert Kim Farley is a director at the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.

He says: "We strongly feel that condom use should be required in this industry.

"Just like a construction worker wouldn't go into a construction site without a hard hat, an adult industry performer shouldn't be having sexual acts without a condom."

Common sense would dictate "yes", but not everyone is possessed of common sense. That said, nobody has any right to make a decision like that for another person, OTHER than the production companies that own the rights to said films. It's like any other job - you agree to their terms and conditions before you take the job, or you look elsewhere.

LOL, I wonder who would get the job of going around and making sure they are Wearing a condom?

good grief..

Well they do have women who's job it is to go around and make sure the guys don't have a problem getting hard and if they do they either give them a handjob or a bj to get them ready, I'm sure it won't be a problem to have someone go make sure they have condoms on.

Maybe he should have stuck to normal sex?

Whats normal sex?

Penis inside vagina.

That's sex.

Sticking your dick inside the back end of someone's digestive system isn't sex. It spreads disease. It's how AIDS was spread. Sorry, homosexuals. It's the truth. The cells of the anal wall aren't built for the stretching of fucking, and they tore easily, thus allowing diseases to get into the blood pretty easily. It just isn't true that normal sex is just as likely to spread AIDS. But of course that's not politically correct to point out. "We are all at risk of AIDS" is the PC mantra. Right. A virgin is just as likely to get AIDS as a Haitian intravenous drug using male homosexual. Sure.

Penis inside vagina is the normal way to have sex? so what if my girlfriend gives me oral sex which requires her to put my penis inside her mouth, is that abnormal sex? and if I have anal sex with her, am I just at risk of getting AIDS as a gay person? gay people are not the only ones having anal sex you know.

Again, people should be able to make their own choices. he made his now he can live with the results but he has no right to legislate behavior for everyone else.

But, we aren't allowed to make our own choices in many job related instances. The article cites hard hats as an example. Many other occupations required the use of personal safety equipment. Healthcare, construction, trucking, all have strict requirements.

Does that make him right for wanting to mandate condoms, or OSHA wrong for imposing dumb safety regulations and taking away the right to personal choice?

What negative externalities can you make a case for?

People screwing donkeys have been around longer than condoms. Porn did not sexualized bestiality, or anything else, they just commercialized it. Map out a way for them to make more money off of condoms than they can without them and you might get them to use them all the time, otherwise, even if the law mandates it, they won't.

Even I can dream up a few plots for porn involving condoms, Quantum Windbag.

I don't think there should be mandatory condom use in porn films simply because the fact it's someone choice to participate in these films. The only way the industry will accept any sort of condom use will be if enough people in the industry stand up and demand it before filming.

Simply making it a law will only open the door for future rulings by the government as how porn films should be regulated. As previously mentioned in the thread, it will also just drive a good part of the industry underground where there will be even less regulations then there is now.

Whats the big deal about wearing a condom? I would think the porn actors would WANT to wear them for safety considering how much sex the actors have on set and off the set, definently alot of risks there.

Part of it is probably actors preference but a large amount of the opposition probably comes from the makers of the films and audience who is purchasing them. I'd look it if I had the opportunity at the moment but I remember reading something about that topic a little while back.

So can I, but non condom plots make more money.

I'm just saying if I were involved in these films I would definently want to wear a condom, when I was single and having sex with every piece of ass I could get my hands on, I wore condoms. I don't know why this should change just because she happens to be a porn star.

Sure, but if comes to whether you want to get the role (wearing a condom or not) many guys will just not wear one. Especially when it comes to guys in the porn industry, it's a matter of "you don't want this role? there's another 50 guys in line behind you willing to do so."

Guys just don't get paid nearly as much as girls in the porn industry for obvious reasons either.

You bring up a very good point, if you refuse the role for not wearing a condom other men will definently step in and take the role, its just so risky but I guess there are plenty of people out there willing to do it. Getting to have sex with some of these hot female porn stars is very tempting but I doubt I could do it without protection. I can understand not requiring a condom for oral and foreplay but for intercourse it is a must for safety.

Guys who go gay/bi porn get paid pretty handsomly I believe, I heard about $5000 a scene, way more than str8 porn.

Well there is always that. Though in this case I would obviously be talking about straight porn.

Gay/Bi porn is actually more dangerous to do without a condom. I just can't understand it either way, but I guess there are alot of people out there willing to take the risk.
