People pick progressive because they actually think the 'progress' in the word means progress. Just like liberalism, lefties have screwed up another word.
The root word for Progressive is progress and defined thusly:

A new poll from the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press out yesterday shows that progressive is the most positively viewed political label in America, with 67 percent holding a positive view compared to just 22 percent who view the term negatively:
The poll found that the term progressive is viewed positively by a majority of all partisan groups including 55 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of Independents, and 76 percent of Democrats.

When the name calling is over..
It was still progressives that gave us prohibition which beget the mob. A dem party staple.
The Prohibition did not create the mob, but it definately put it in the drivers seat. Just as the present War on Drugs has aided the South and Central American cartels. Without even mentioning the effect outlawing marijauna has had.
And, no, I have never used illegal drugs, not even pot. But the present laws concerning them are just as sane as the Prohibition. And it is the 'Conservatives' that are the prime supporters of those laws.
