I at first intended to post this article in my thread, "Bad Cop, No Donut", but instead decided it is of so much importance it needs it's own thread. The divide between the public and the police is growing wider. Trust of the police by the public is at an all time low. This is solely the fault of the police. The "few bad apples" lie has lost it's effect. If their are "good cops" and they aren't doing anything about the "bad cops", that makes them "bad cops" as well. The "Blue Brotherhood" and the "thin blue line" should not exist where those championed with the welfare of the people are concerned; when you separate yourselves from us, you have done yourselves and us a grave disservice. If you, as a cop, really want to help society, the first thing you need to do is cut through the "thin blue line", remove yourself from the "Blue Brotherhood" and join the Brotherhood of Man.
Police Brutality and Abuse is no Longer the Exception, It is the Norm
Not a day goes by without news of another case of police brutality or the abuse of power by officers, which begs the question: is this the new norm? There was a time when it was not so common to hear about abuse by the police, let alone see actual footage of the abuse taking place. But now in this age of technology, camera phones, video cameras and even squad car dash cams have made it possible for the general public to have access to the rampant abuse of power by law enforcement. As police brutality becomes more commonplace one is left to wonder if the public can ever really feel safe and protected by the very ones supposedly charged with that duty.
