“He is trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. Give me a break. That is a bunch of malarkey.”
-- Vice President Joe Biden

How dare Donald Trump play the victim! Of all the people who attacked him at the DNC Convention, Trump chose to pick on "regular" citizens who shared his thoughts about their experiences as immigrants to America. How can Trump claim to be the champion of the "little guy," the "regular" Americans and have seen fit to remark by making the inference he did about Mrs. Khan's silence as her husband spoke?

The text of Mr. Khan's speech:
Tonight we are honoured to stand here as parents of Captain Humayun Khan and as patriotic American Muslims - with undivided loyalty to our country. Like many immigrants, we came to this country empty-handed. We believed in American democracy; that with hard work and goodness of this country, we could share in and contribute to its blessings. We are blessed to raise our three sons in a nation where they were free to be themselves and follow their dreams.

Our son, Humayun, had dreams too, of being a military lawyer, but he put those dreams aside the day he sacrificed his life to save the lives of his fellow soldiers. Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son 'the best of America'. If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America.

Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities; women; judges; even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls, and ban us from this country. Donald Trump, you're asking Americans to trust you with their future.

Let me ask you: have you even read the United States constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. [he pulls it out] In this document, look for the words 'liberty' and 'equal protection of law'. Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery? Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending the United States of America. You will see all faiths, genders and ethnicities.

We cannot solve our problems by building walls, sowing division. We are stronger together. And we will keep getting stronger when Hillary Clinton becomes our President.

In conclusion, I ask every patriot American, all Muslim immigrants, and all immigrants to not take this election lightly. This is a historic election, and I request to honour the sacrifice of my son - and on election day, take the time to get out and vote. And vote for the healer. vote for the strongest, most qualified candidate, Hillary Clinton, not the divider.

God bless you, thank you.
Trump tweeted that Mr. Khan attacked him. Where? Does Trump really think, "You have sacrificed nothing and no one," is much of an attack, much less one from an ordinary American and not some rich or powerful figure? Puh-lease.

Apparently, along with all the other things Trump never learned is that one cannot attack another using a question that one also doesn't oneself answer. Mr. Khan exercised the level of decency that Trump simply cannot and has not throughout his campaign. Rather than stating something akin to "I doubt Donald Trump has read the Constitution," Mr. Khan asked a question, a simple one at that and offered to share his copy of the Constitution with Trump if he had not. He used the same approach in asking about Arlington Cemetery.

The only response Trump needed to give was "Yes, I've read the Constitution, and I've been to Arlington Cemetery." There was no need to offer speculation about why Mrs. Khan's stood silently while her husband spoke. He could have even spoken not about the Khans personally, but rather about the issue Mr. Khan address, immigration, which supposedly is one of Trump's "pet" issues. Why go "off message" and attack those people? It's just wrong. They are just two middle class Americans -- not "establishment," not the "power elite" -- they are the sort of citizens Trump claims to be "for." BS

Here are a number of remarks other speakers, folks who cannot rightly be called "regular" people, and of whom I'm not aware of Trump having had squat to say about their comportment, presence or remarks at the DNC convention.
  • "Donald Trump & Mike Pence have united to form the 'make misogyny great again' ticket."
-- Ilyse Hogue, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America
  • “Donald Trump says he gets his foreign-policy experience from watching TV and running the Miss Universe pageant. If only it were funny, but it is deadly serious.”
-- Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta
  • “No major party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or been less prepared to deal with our national security.”
    -- Vice President Joe Biden
  • “He’s not really a plans guy. Not really a facts guy, either.”
    -- President Barack Obama
  • “Trump strangled the sunny optimism of Ronald Reagan and replaced 'Tear down that wall' with the cynical bigotry of "Build that wall."
-- California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom
  • “Even the Know Nothings, anti-immigrant party of the 1850s, did not stray this far into sheer ignorance and dark fantasy as have the Republicans and their leader Donald Trump.”
    -- California Gov. Jerry Brown
  • “He even mocked POWs like John McCain. I served in the same Navy as John McCain. I used to vote in the same party as John McCain. Donald, you are not fit to polish John McCain's boots.”
    --Hutson
  • “Donald Trump is a walking, talking, recruiting poster for terrorists. That is not hyperbole, that's not hyperbole. ISIS literally used Trump in a commercial.”
--Rear Admiral John Hutson, formerly of the U.S. Navy
What has Trump had to say about these folks' remarks? The folks noted above, unlike the Khans, each have their own "bully pulpit" from which they can handily fight back. But Trump didn't choose to remark about them, at least that I'm aware of.

Khan is not a just a "little guy". He is a symbol employed by the Democratic Party.

Unfortunately for them, Khan being connected with the Muslim Brotherhood and having a law firm that assists Muslims in getting into the country suggests a motive other than simply whoring his dead son out to the Clinton campaign.

Kahn hit first, you understand that right?

And he's went after Biden and Obama and company plenty...

Did you just read Longknife's piece of sh** link? Doubling down on a Gold Star family is not wise, guys.

Let's see, the father of a war hero uses his time on the podium to say, Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities; women; judges; even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls, and ban us from this country. Donald Trump, you're asking Americans to trust you with their future. Should Trump just let it go?

Trump's appropriate response: Sorry for your loss, bite me, enjoy your Clinton Foundation cash
