Photovoltaic power at fossil fuel prices

Yeah well we'll all be chomping at the bit to check out the roll out of this clear cut no-brainer form of energy.......almost as brilliant as the 1,000 foot high wall!!!!!:coffee:

Roll out? New form of energy? Man, you take "stupid" where its never been before.

s0n.....like 179 people have even heard about this technology. Its only a big thing to the fringe far left climate change obsessed. Now.....if this technology ends up accounting for .00056 of our energy output and that's a big thing for you......hey.....what can I say??:D:D

Solar energy provides us with a whole .02% of our energy!!!:coffee:

Stupid is as stupid does.:2up:

Do you actually think people will stick with a power source that costs MORE money?

Only if the government forces them to.

A team at Liverpool University? That means Government subsidized/paid for, research. Thus far governments have spent billions of dollars at Government Universities, and all these billions is not included in the cost of Solar yet they make the claim its the same price as fossil fuel.

What the fuck are you talking about? Are you insane? The government has NOT spent billions on research into these photovoltaics. Whatever the government and private industry HAVE spent on the research has been more than paid back by advances in the field.

All Green Energy increases the consumption of natural resources and oil. Hence Green Energy drives the cost of Fossil Fuel higher, its called increase demand.

To quote Orogenicman, "are you really this stupid?" This statement is lunacy of the first order.

Further, Fossil Fuel is saddled with endless lawsuits and government regulations that Solar is exempt from, beings how its only government building green energy its seems awfully biased and dishonest to put "the government's boot on the throat" of Fossil Energy and then claim Solar is as cheap.

The government is not bringing "endless lawsuits" against fossil fuel. If individuals are doing so - and I know of no such thing taking place - perhaps there are reasons for them to do so. But in any case, such suits have no bearing on the cost of photovoltaics. The government does have some regulation controlling the exploration, production and use of fossil fuels. But those regulation are far more than made up by decades of multi-billion dollar subsidies our government and the governments of other nations have provided the fossil fuel industry since its inception. You suggest that solar is not competing fairly. I suggest you're completely full of shit and just don't want to see the competition at all.

You give a very strong impression that you would rather pay more to use fossil fuel than to get your power from photovoltaics. Why?

Nothing but lies and lies and lies.

Nothing but ignorance and the prejudice that always seems to go with it.

Really, how much is spent on research at universities on Solar Power?

What has the government given in tax breaks to corporations for research into Solar Power?

If you can not provide any figure, you are actually a lot stupider than I.

How have the advances paid for the research? Easy to say a simpleton sentence, but is that really a response? Not at all, your just spouting your emotion all over the thread.

Solar Power increases consumption, you say that is lunacy, yet it takes more energy, more natural resources to build the worlds largest in physical size structures, Solar covers square miles, that is a tremendous amount of material, yet you think that did not increase consumption, at the least Solar consumes more dollars. At the least Solar Consumes more land. At the very least making photoactive cells requires, "high grade silica" to be melted using fossil fuel, and when these panels cover square miles, its easy to see that consumption has increased.

Yes, its not the government bringing endless lawsuits, its only private citizens who only are operating within government made rules, regulations, laws, and codes. Its only the citizens who go to the government courts, thats right government courts, with government certified/trained and diplomaed Lawyers.

Private Citizens? Nothing is private when your a Lawyer operating within the rules the government has made for Lawyers to play in.

Competition? Now you are the prove yourself the idiot. The Universities provide the research, the government pays for the research, the government gives the land for free, the government guarantees the loans which without nobody would invest, the public is forced to pay more for electricity and you call this competition.

I have to buy more expensive food like Lettuce because California is building Solar, I have no choice, I guess nobody ever explained to you that Electric Companies have monopolies in their regions, hence so much government regulation on rates, so please explain where the competition is.

Seriously, you have zero knowledge of what you speak, hence the lack of any facts in your post.

Building the World's Largest Photolative plant that covers square miles of land, increased the consumption of fossil fuels and raw materials.

At that, this is just the beginning, over $300 billion has been spent on Solar and Wind Power in the last two years and that is not even 1% of the money needed.

Hmmmm. Money? We are talking $100's of Billions of Dollars which will be loaned by banks, could there possibly be a motive of, "greed" involved.

Solar has failed to provide electricity. Had we spent the same amount of money on Nuclear or Oil, a pound of hamburger would cost a $1 lb. Not $5 lb.

Solar will kill us, by the millions. We are moving all our produce production to Mexico and China, can we really trust foreign governments to provide us with the food we eat?

The Price of everything we eat has gone up because our government is subsidizing Solar while allowing endless lawsuits against the only thing that can sustain life, oil.

Solar Photovoltaic panels are built with Petroleum, the production of Solar Panels of any type increases consumption.

Only a stupid ass moron would argue otherwise.

Wind power energy payback down to 6 months now, and still dropping.

Wind turbine payback: Environmental lifecycle assessment of 2-megawatt wind turbines -- ScienceDaily

Renewable energy is a great success, despite the attempts of the kooks to sabotage the USA in the name of their political party.

More Bullshit propaganda posted by another who plays google like a deck of cards, you think you drew an ACE?

A link to Science Daily that links to eurekalert that does not link to the original press release which was from International Journal of Sustainable Manufacturing.

Provide the study, not the press release, and not a press release that has been copied ten times.

This is what idiots consider Science, a press release they find with google.

Where is the study? How could anyone with intelligence read an article with no scientific data, zero facts, and assume its, even science?

where is the study? if you can not provide the study then all mamooth has done is built a strawman.

The irony of anyone on the denier side of the argument complaining about blogs and press releases vs actual studies. Incredible.

Here. Took all of eight seconds. Or about one tenth the amount of time you spent composing your bitch about it. And, BTW, Mamooth did not link to a press release, but a science news story in Science Daily. One that included links to the source article.

ps: you really ought to look up "strawman" and get a grip on the definition before you try to use it again in a sentence, cause you completely blew this instance.

U.S. Solar Market Insight | SEIA

The U.S. installed 1,330 MW of solar photovoltaics (PV) in the first quarter of 2014 to total 14.8 GW installed capacity, enough to power 3 million homes. In another significant development, Q1 2014 was the largest quarter ever for concentrating solar power

Looks like solar is in the game, bigtime.

Good to see you back. Your absence was noted.

Thank you. Was on a multi-state ramble with my grandson, neice, wife, and 90 year old aunt. Kids had a ball, saw much, and were trapped in the car and had to listen to the geology lectures from this old coot.
