Actually, Pete, America is a democratic republic. You know, like in the Pledge of Allegiance: "We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to THE REPUBLIC for which it stands. . . ." The founding fathers did all in their power to avoid forming a purely majority rule nation, i.e., a "democracy." They wanted to protect the rights of the minority against the excesses of the majority. One of the key ways they did that was to set up the Electoral College so that presidents would expressly NOT be elected by the popular vote.

Revisionist bullshit. The idea was that each state was to come to an agreement on its choices, and submit them. It was NOT that these artificial and divisive concepts of "red states' and "blue states" should bubble up. When you have more than half of State X's voters' votes summarily tossed in the shitcan, when you have untold millions not bothering to vote because their state is already predetermined ---- you have a problem.

Of course, the Constitution doesn't require a vote at all. But if you're going to purport to have a vote event, then don't take half or more of those votes, go "thanks for playin'" and toss them in the crapper. That's bullshit. And it's why our turnout is so low, and it's why certain places will never see a POTUS candidate, and it's why we're all dependent on polls to find out whether it's even worth getting out of bed on election day and even if it is there's a 50-50 chance your vote goes in the shredder. That's just arrogant bullshit. If you're going to make a sham out of the whole thing why hold a vote at all? What the fuck is the point?
