So which of Perry's shortcomings is God punishing Texas for?
Ms. Bachmann? Any thoughts?

The Perry apologists are falling over themselves to defend his SECOND missed debate in a row LOL. AGAIN, what is he going to do that firefighters and other personnel aren't already doing?

Yet nobody has addressed what his purpose or "responsibility" is with regards to the fire...surveying the situation and speaking about it hardly sounds like an effective measure. It's not a partisan issue, Obama, Bush, you name it...it's a ceremonial appearance that does little other than appeasing those that feel it should happen.
If he can be in TX (travel is not impeded) then he should be in TX...
Only a moron would expect him to go to a debate instead....
Is this any surprise really? The fires have been raging for some time now BUT he decides now that he's needed back in the Republic of Texas He skipped the first debate and now he bails on this one. Whats up bruh? I think he KNEW he was going to be asked some tough questions. The Forum was set-up for participants to be individually questioned by three people and he could'nt take the heat apparently
Gov. Rick Perry to Skip Labor Day Forum, Return to Texas to Address Wildfires - Summerville, SC Patch
Perry was scheduled to attend Senator Jim DeMint's forum of Republican presidential contenders in Columbia at 3 p.m.
we have like 12 threads on that , its hard I know but try and focus.....or just start a I hate Perry thread and flush your brain there...thx.
Everyone else talking about it does not equate to the candidate who is governor of that state in question addressing it to the American public he wants to be President of...
Plenty of time between September 2011 and November 2012 to do that...
For now, he should take care of urgent state matters ahead of political debates...
But you knew that....

And yet they have been raging in his state for months now. It hasn't stopped his campaigning up to this point.
Maybe he DOES have his state's best interests at heart, but this just looks like he is running from debate.
He's gonna have to own up to the crap in his book, the cover-up of the execution of an innocent man, the unemployment rate in his state, the poverty level in his state, the number of uninsured in his state...and on and on at some point. Stop putting off the inevitable.
And what will Perry do? Grab a water hose, build a backfire, join Bush in cutting brush? Seems to me a leader seeking to be the next POTUS would use the debate as a forum to explain his position on responding to every region of the US from fire, flood and other natural and man-made disasters.

Exactly, he just "should".
Big. Mistake.
Romney might be able to pull this out after all.

Yes, let's question his intentions during a time of natural disaster. The vast majority of Americans are not like you and I, or rather you. They do not sit around and question every act of politicians based on political motivations. Most people expect their elected representatives to be there to lead in times of crisis.
Unemployment in Texas? Of all the issues you could list unemployment in Texas is, which currently stands at 8.4%--well below the national average--, is not something Perry is going to be criticized for. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/laus.pdf
And the things in his book are only 'controversial' to people on the left. It is laughable that MSNBC and the NY Times keeps telling people that his book should be an issue, when no one beyond MSNBC or the NYT gives a damn. Get rid of the IRS and man made global warming is bullshit, wow that is really going to hurt him in the GOP primary.

No "just" about it...
He should..
Why is this a difficult concept for you Bobby?

Correct.
Certainly there are knowledgeable and skilled administrators dealing with the problem, as well as private sector experts. Is there some knowledge about fighting fires that Perry only knows?
Its symbolism, obviously.
But as some point Perry will be forced to participate in a debate, and address issues put before him by a sometimes-hostile media.
Better to do it now while few are paying attention, and learn from the mistakes.
Big. Mistake.
Romney might be able to pull this out after all.
unlikely.
Frankly, was anyone other than political junkies planning to watch this forum? I wasn't.
Perry is going to be at the Debate that counts- the one Obama tried to pre-empt.
