Where the wild things are
IDF soldiers recently discovered a tunnel, built by Gaza terrorists, that led from Gaza to a nearby Israeli community. The discovery was made late Wednesday night, but was under a gag order until Sunday morning.

Terrorists were apparently planning a large-scale infiltration and attack, and were possibly planning to bring Israeli civilians back to Gaza as captives.

Terrorists have made several attempts to kidnap Israelis in recent months, with the goal of exchanging captives for terrorists being held in Israeli prisons. A terror tunnel similar to that found Wednesday night was used in the 2006 kidnapping of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, along with the killing of two other soldiers.

The terror tunnel that was exposed began in the Gaza town of Absan al-Zariz, located between the city of Khan Younis and the Gaza security fence. It extended for 2.5 kilometers (over 1.5 miles).

The tunnel had been packed with explosives at various points. Several offshoots had been dug leading off in various directions.

Yeah, let's make peace with 'em!:doubt:

Israel has demonstrated repeatedly her willingness to swap land for peace, as it was done with Gaza.

However, the time has long since come and gone to negotiate with islamic terrorists. Only a negotiated settlement has value--as evidenced by the peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt, and that unilateral actions (such as Israeli withdrawals from Gaza and south Lebanon) only makes matters worse.

I suspect the “Palestinian” arabs in their previous unilateral effort to bypass negotiations with Israel and instead seek international recognition of a “Palestinian” State based on 1967 "borders" and the election of islamist terrorists who maintain their charter seeking the destruction of Israel will whine and seethe about their tunnel rats being discovered. The “Palestinian” arab tunnel rats still hold as a religious obligation their right to violent aggression against Israel.

But this is the way of Moslems / Arabs who have an ideological imperative to hate – to hate Jews and to to hate the idea of a Jewish State in “Moslem Lands”l. Only blood will serve; only blood will sufficiently unite the Moslem world and its allies to not only condemn Israel but also further incite hatred and violence, even war, against her. And the tunnel rats were preparing to pursue their ideology of hate.

Netanyahu Commends Security Forces Over Terror Tunnel Discovery

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu informed cabinet members at his weekly meeting on Sunday that Israel is "seeing an increase in terrorist activities in recent weeks."

Referring to the recently exposed terrorist tunnel from Gaza leading into Ein Hashlosha, Netanyahu commented, "I want to commend the IDF for uncovering this tunnel. This is our policy - an aggressive policy against acts of terror, as well as to thwart (attempts), using intelligence operations, pro-active and reactive measures, and of course, Operation Pillar of Defense."

Ah. I see the IDF is using the Colt M4 carbine.

US + Israeli cooperation = Islamic terrorist smack-down.

Is there any evidence this wasn't just as contraband smuggling tunnel like a hundred others they've found?

I wouldn't be surprised a contraband tunnel would extend to a jewish settlement.

Israel should stop letting concrete into Gaza.

If they cannot use that for anything but terror, let them live in mud and dirt.

Enough is enough.

You should open up a map, we talk about the western-Negev, not Judea and Samaria.

And yes, there is evidence, there was for a long time. the people of Ein-Hashlosha alerted for YEARS that they can hear digging from undearneath their houses, yet nothing was done till now.

Palestinians digging undearneath Israeli houses is not for april-fool spook them:doubt:

Yes, it was certainly a mistake to recommence letting concrete etc in. I personally think Israel is far too kind to Gaza with letting goods in. For each rocket lobbed from Gaza to Israel the crossing for food and other goods from Israel to Gaza should be closed for one week. Then of course the goods can be let in (having been stagnating in the vehicles for one week of course).

"Terror Tunnel" eh? Sounds like a cool ride at a theme park or the president's annual rectal exam.

Abandon all hope ye who enter.

Makes one wonder how many suicide missions, ground attacks and intrusions have been prevented since the 'Wall' was erected.

This act once again demonstrates the utter lack of the Palestinians for any real desire of peace with Israel.

As peace talk continue so does the tunneling , to make terrorism easier!

What hope there is?

Now the army is looking for more of those. It can't be the only one.

We wish them much success:eusa_pray:

We should not have exposed the tunnel like that. We should have waited for them to start "last checking" it and then blow this whole place up.

In Vietnam we flooded the tunnels with aviation fuel and diesel, then lit a match. Learned that from the Marines from WWII.
