Anyone honest about the political landscape of this election knew this was going to be the case. Sure the loyal partisan Democrats wanted to spin as if it wasn't going to happen but they feel it's their duty to circle the wagons. The lesson here, as it was back in 2012, is to not listen to the predictions of the devoutly partisan.

That isn't how it works though. After leaving office it is very common to address the person by the last office they once held (elected or otherwise) coupled with their surname. It is matter of tradition and respect. Wether that should be the case or not is an entirely different fox hunt.
