Out of 35 countries, the US is ranked 34th as the worst for child poverty

Face it, America kind of sucks.
It does, when it's run by Democrats, who bring millions of dirt poor, unskilled people from the 3rd world here (to VOTE for them), and is the primary reason why we have poverty, in addition to pandering to minorities who have little work ethic.

I'd say THAT part of America sucks, yeah. But take heart. That part of America has been replaced by leaders with a totally different mindset and approach.

Map: How 35 countries compare on child poverty (the U.S. is ranked 34th)

1 out of 5 children in the US are in poverty.

The poor U.S. showing in this data may reflect growing income inequality. According to one metric of inequality, a statistical measurement called the gini coefficient, the U.S. economy is one of the most unequal in the developed world. This would explain why the United States, on child poverty, is ranked between Bulgaria and Romania, though Americans are on average six times richer than Bulgarians and Romanians.

When you spend trillions to eradicate poverty.....but don't count government spending in the poverty stats....DERP

More than one in five American children fall below a relative poverty line, which UNICEF defines as living in a household that earns less than half of the national median.

Awesome misuse of stats!!

What was the point of limiting the survey to 35 countries? Oh yeah, its framing to make the US look bad.

And for a lot of those countries ahead of us being good at child poverty rankings is easy when your population isn't maintaining itself due to low birth rates.

How do you keep poor people poor?
By inviting unskilled, low-wage immigrants from 3rd world countries to come here and take jobs away from Americans, and to deprive US businesses of trillions$$ in lost sales, due to immigrants' remittances ($133 Billion/year - 2015) That's how.

New Zealand? Think about it people. The United States supports more illegal aliens than the total population of the Scandinavian countries and New Zealand for that matter. The U.N. (bar scene from Star Wars) loves to preach to the United States about child welfare when they are busy extorting money from the U.S. and passing it on to "emerging nations" in Africa that sell their freaking kids into slavery.

why is that

when the left has had a war on poverty for decades

and instead going down it goes up

Thanks to Obama poverty incresed in the United States in the last eight years.
Well see it's actually been declining for decades. Started with Reagan. Nice try.

It was worse when that asshole Obama left office as it was when he took office.

You can't blame that failure on anybody other than Obama himself.

The bloated government is the primary element responsible for poverty in the US.

The combined cost of Federal State and local government is about 40% of the GDP and that is the reason why we have dismal economic growth in addition to increasing poverty and declining family income.

How can any family in America do well when the cost of government becomes their largest family expenditures? More than food housing or just about anything else.

Obama contributed significantly to the growth in big government to include more regulation and a hostile business environment. No wonder poverty is increasing. Either directly or indirectly we all pay for this big bloated out of control government. Not only on the Federal level but also state and local.

The best way not to be poor is to not contribute to the election of big government Liberals and their failed Left economic disaster. You don't create prosperity by taking money from one person and giving it to another, do you? You create wealth by stimulating capitalism not creating welfare.

It is not just Democrats although they are always guilty. Republicans also enable failed Left policies.

"More than one in five American children fall below a relative poverty line, which UNICEF defines as living in a household that earns less than half of the national median. " Being a bit misleading aren't you? I was imediately sceptical of the claim, but what the heck, I am willing to find out if I'm wrong. So, I star reading. Second sentence. Wow. Don't need to go any further.

This is a red herring.

But, let's give credit where credit is due. I wonder how we ranked in say....2009. Anyone?

So that's why the poor from these countries are climbing fences and roasting in metal trailer trucks to get here ? Some posters have no common sense. Good post, jon.

Where is the first place those parents thought of for medical help for their infant when they couldn't get it in the U.K.? Did they try to get to New Zealand or freaking Norway?

The conservative approach to poverty?

Deny the poor any and all benefits that might help them.

The theory behind it (other than greed)?

Somehow, if you make poverty painful enough, the poor will stop being poor.
Replace the word "conservative" with "republican" and you get closer to the truth. If you would like to understand the real conservative approach, let me know....
