Olympics fan gives Nazi salute - Fined $3900

I know liberals love this sort of thing but to me this is as wrong as anything can be. Who did this guy harm? I said harm - not offend.

A Lithuanian man who gave a Nazi salute during an Olympic basketball match has become the first person to be convicted of a racially aggravated offence at the Games and fined £2,500. He was told that his behaviour and that of other Lithuanian fans was "despicable".

Petras Lescinskas, 36, an accountant from Lithuania, was arrested on Tuesday at the Olympic basketball arena during the Lithuania-Nigeria match. Stratford magistrates court was told that he and other Lithuanian supporters had been behaving in such a loud and aggressive manner that other spectators moved away from them. There were "monkey-style noises when Nigerian players had the ball", the court heard.

The guy was an idiot to have done that.

Many countries in Europe have laws against the public display of anything relating to Nazism. If you don't like other country's laws, don't go to those countries. Europe is not the US; there are limitations on some freedoms, which isn't always a bad thing. Those idiots from Westboro Baptist could never do in Europe what they can do here.

britian does not have the 1st like the US...they take nazi crap serious and do fine for it.

I know that and i think it's wrong. In america this guy would be criticised but the law would not touch him.

not quite the olympic games is a international PRIVATE EVENT YOU ARE INVITED TO **THERE ARE RULES ** the whole idea of the games is where all nations are one at peace and follow the same rules , he should have been thown out had the games been on american soil the same thing would have happened to him
its not the law of england that fined him it was the olympic games assn in which he agreed to participate

Private events can't fine people, idiot. The man was arrested and fined thousands of dollars for sticking his hand up in the air... he broke the UK's law against rightwing racism (leftwing racism is legal and common), from the racial hatred act of 2008.

I'm sure you could not understand this, but public displays of Nazism in Europe is a bit like shouting "Fire" in a movie cinema full of people. Even in the US, freedom of speech does have limitations, and it has nothing to do with being liberal.

Thank you shithead, for your defense of tyranny. I've never heard of anyone being arrested or fined for shouting "fire" in a crowded theater. Regardless, it's totally different, fucktard.

A hypothetical ban on yelling "fire" in a crowded theater has nothing to do with ideology. A punishment for a nazi solute is all about oppressing an ideology.

More insanity Just a few days back we had that athlete banned for making an allegedly racial joke on the internet!!!! And now this. Liberals despise free speech.

Trust me...I think a lot less of you for your position on this. Seriously.

I dont get it either u can fine someone if there is harm, but now people want symbols and gestures banned? have become that much of babies, okay u can say the guy is a jerk and shove it down our throats, but really ur mad an american is all for free speech and free gestures.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? How much do you know and understand about WWII?

I'm far less shocked with Euro-socialist oppression of the people than I am that £2,500 is equal to $3900.
What a disgrace...

Yea that European oppression is pretty awful, isn't it?

Reminds me of that girl who was kicked off the Greek Olympic team after she responded to the news of West Nile mosquito in Europe with a harmless geography joke about Africans in Europe being food from home. She wasn't just criticized. She wasn't just prohibited from taking part in ceremonies. She was totally removed from something she worked for years and years to get to.

Liberals are full of hate and extreme intolerance.

I can see why you would be supportive of an ideology that killed between 11 and 20 million people. Right up your alley you piece of shit.

Wrong shithead, I don't support government force against anyone not using force. But, you do. The blood of millions of people murdered by government is on your hands.

*laughs* Yeah... In America that guy likely would have been punched and knocked out... And the guy that hit him would be fined the 2500...

I'll be honest though... I like American system better. There is a good chance that no camera was on at the time and the people around didn't see a thing while they cheered for ya to hit him again.

Edit: Where I'm from anyway. Obviously we have all kinds here in the US.

no the uk on excepting the role of being the *host * country for the games agreed to prosecute any individual who broke the rules so i should have said uk fined him under thier agreement with the international olympic commitee
please show me evidence that the uk has laws agianst right wing racism and not left wing .
hitler was a socialist /atheist

just like you like it in the ass when your horse fucks you.

You need to quit hanging around those sick porn sites on the internet. Otherwise you'll be spouting even more digusting things than the above.

It depends on the context?

Than talk to the Euros about this, this didn't happen in the US.

NOt sure about Britain, but in Europe, laws are different on this sort of thing than in America. they have very little tolerance for Nazism.

In other words, they don't believe in freedom of speech. That's the difference between a free country and the socialist distopias of Europe.

Respecting your citizens' free speech rights does not mean you don't take "Nazi crap" seriously.
