Olympics fan gives Nazi salute - Fined $3900

More insanity Just a few days back we had that athlete banned for making an allegedly racial joke on the internet!!!! And now this. Liberals despise free speech.

Trust me...I think a lot less of you for your position on this. Seriously.

I dont get it either u can fine someone if there is harm, but now people want symbols and gestures banned? have become that much of babies, okay u can say the guy is a jerk and shove it down our throats, but really ur mad an american is all for free speech and free gestures.

A Lithuanian man who gave a Nazi salute...

There were "monkey-style noises when Nigerian players had the ball", the court heard.

That must be one of those liberal Nazi's Glenn Beck and some of the doofuses on here are always talking about!

What's good for America isn't necessarily good for the rest of the world...

You can buy Mein Kampf here and I agree with the right to purchase it HERE. I understand why other countries, especially those in Europe, ban that book and do not permit Nazi ceremonies, etc.

Yeah. It takes a long time to get over being almost wiped from the face of the Earth. I can certainly see why Europeans are a little touchy on the Hitler/Nazi stuff.

And just like this guy was told to hit the bricks. Sad part is someone else was deprived of a slot.

NOt sure about Britain, but in Europe, laws are different on this sort of thing than in America. they have very little tolerance for Nazism.

I would imagine in a country that was as ravaged by WW2 as england they are probably a bit more sensitive towards open shows of destructive hate as the nazi salute. I really cannot fault them for fining such a dimwit so much money for this.

I agree.... i am pretty darn sure that in would fall under Britain's zero tolerance laws.

I know liberals love this sort of thing but to me this is as wrong as anything can be. Who did this guy harm? I said harm - not offend.

Man who gave Nazi salute at a basketball match fined £2,500 | Sport | guardian.co.uk

guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 1 August 2012 15.47 EDT

A Lithuanian man who gave a Nazi salute during an Olympic basketball match has become the first person to be convicted of a racially aggravated offence at the Games and fined £2,500. He was told that his behaviour and that of other Lithuanian fans was "despicable".

Petras Lescinskas, 36, an accountant from Lithuania, was arrested on Tuesday at the Olympic basketball arena during the Lithuania-Nigeria match. Stratford magistrates court was told that he and other Lithuanian supporters had been behaving in such a loud and aggressive manner that other spectators moved away from them. There were "monkey-style noises when Nigerian players had the ball", the court heard.

I'm far less shocked with Euro-socialist oppression of the people than I am that £2,500 is equal to $3900.
What a disgrace...

britian does not have the 1st like the US...they take nazi crap serious and do fine for it.

I know that and i think it's wrong. In america this guy would be criticised but the law would not touch him.

Actually, it depends. certain things are banned on private property and in certain public venues. Thouh he would not be arrested here in america he might find himself ejected from the property by the police, if he refused to leave on request, and he might have faced a civil lawsuit. Would you believe that here in america i have been thrown out of a local mall for wearing cat ears? Of course, the mall is private property, and they were contracted by one of their tenants, the disney store, not to allow anyone wearing a costume. Interestingly, the FYE which was holding a cosplay event to promote anime was allowed to have me present on their rental property in the mall as long as I left as soon as i was done there.

Freedom of speech and expression is not absolute in america, and before you go whining many of those laws were actually established by conservatives who wanted protection from things they do not like, and for the ability for private property owners to make their own rules. Liberals like the ACLU are often the ones opposing such practices in the name of freedom, but you are free to lie about it due to the protections you have allowing you to be completely full of shit made by those same liberals.

What's the new solute for the modern European nazis, the ones that punishes people with big fines for little speech?

A case of the government becoming the very thing it is trying to protect the people from.

yeah, it is nothing lie being tossed out of dollywood for wearing a T-shirt that says you support gay marriage. Completely legal as many private places forbid messages that may be deemed by them as promoting violence and disrupting their guests.

Please, do not piss on the laws that prevent you from being disturbed by opposing opinions on private property. It is not actually out of the ordinary, and no one can say that would have been tolerated in america.

not quite the olympic games is a international PRIVATE EVENT YOU ARE INVITED TO **THERE ARE RULES ** the whole idea of the games is where all nations are one at peace and follow the same rules , he should have been thown out had the games been on american soil the same thing would have happened to him
its not the law of england that fined him it was the olympic games assn in which he agreed to participate and follow their rules
remember john carlos (?)raising his hand in a black power panther salute at the 1968 games he was banned ,its not the country its held in its the *event *

The Olympic Code of Conduct is contained within the Olympic Charter.

The Olympic Charter is a 96-page document that details the spirit, behavior and finer details of holding an Olympic Games. It is a guide which informs athletes and officials how they should approach the Olympic Games, and the significance of the Olympics throughout history. It is, in effect, akin to a constitution.

LOL, its not like people get upset about a guy hailing the murder of millions.

You realize you're a hypocrite, right? I wonder how you would react if I said that James holmes was a true American hero and that everyone in that theater deserved what they got.

Hey, its not like I'm harming anyone, right?...right guys?
