Old cartoon predicts the future

I don't want you to comment unless you took the time to watch the cartoon. Thanks.

Seen it many times.

What you want on this forum is irrelevant, but thanks for posting it anyway.

Well then comment on the video. That is what the thread is about. Seems as if people back then were more aware than we are today.
It's cold war propaganda. Designed to make you fearful of communism. It was because of videos like this that people were aware. It was by design.

We should be fearful of communism, of all forms of collectivism in fact. Immoral as hell.
Then the military must be disbanded...

Exactly what the anti-capitalists argued for after the revolutionary war. They lost to the Federalists who wanted to put the military under the President. In exchange they Bill of Rights.

That isn't "propaganda." It is truth and it is explaining the methods which the government would use to take away our freedoms.
But it was propaganda, whatever you think about it now.

I think we are all smart enough to understand that our government isn't serving the population.

It's being controlled, but not by communists. It's being controlled by capitalists.

Capitalists have no ability to control anything. CRONY capitalists is what you're referring to.
Adjectives describe the noun, they don't make it something entirely different. A crony capitalist is still a capitalist. Your attempt to obfuscate is weak.

Actually it is an entirely different thing. Adjectives can do that. English 101.

A true free market capitalist has ZERO ability to force anyone to do anything. They make money through voluntary transactions only, they face competition, and they have consequences for not meeting the expectations of their customers. They cannot compel, only entice, which you can reject or not.

Cronyism has nothing to do with free market capitalism. Cronyists get their power to forcible extract wealth on an involuntary basis from one source only, government. It's government that has the back of their crony partners because only government can require compliance with the threat of fines or imprisonment, all enforced by armed agents. A true capitalists has no such ability.

If capitalism is sex, cronyism (and all forms of collectivism) is rape. One is consensual, one is most certainly not.

So yes, and adjective can make all the difference in the world.

And a free market has nothing to do with capitalism. A capitalist simply produces a commodity which he exchanges in a market for money, with the intent of increasing his capital. The use of the accumulated capital to lobby or buy politicians does not make the capitalist any less of a capitalist. The capitalist is merely pursuing his self interest which is perfectly in line with the ism.

If this is your way of saying the government should stop meddling in markets, thereby removing any ability for the capitalist to unfairly enrich himself, then I agree.

Call it whatever you like, without government meddling, there can be no aspect of capitalism that would allow business people to, as you said, "control the government".

I'm saying we should eliminate capital accumulation. We the people should reserve the right to manage the markets, to ensure that they meet our interests without interference from special interests.

I found it to be great, insightful and true. A great way to teach kids of the danger of government and allowing them to grab too much power with empty promises.
It was a warning of the dangers of ism. Did you make the connection with capitalism. Or were you mesmerized by all the imagery of freedom? You don't think the kings of capital will enslave you? It's your government, stop acting like it is the enemy and take it back.

Our government has been taken over by greedy corrupt sloths and a two-party monopoly on the system.
I know. Capitalism is as dangerous as any other ism.

Don't you think that would be even worse under socialism or communism? There is a reason why these political philosophies are failures and why the US has been very successful as a country . . .until fairly recent history anyways.
As a Marxist I can appreciate the value that capitalism has brought to the development of our society. But it is time to move on. It's failing us now.

Social Democracy is failing us, not the free market.

Ah, I see.

Problem is, your centrally planned Utopia absolutely 100% requires involuntary compliance enforced by armed agents of the very same central planners in whom you place so much faith.

That's some immoral shit there pal. I'll stick with free people engaging in voluntary transactions. No jacked booted thugs required.

Social democracy arises from the failure of the capitalist economic system to meet all of our needs. The more inclusive our economy, the less need for social democracy.

Evolution will take its course. People will come around to the ideas being espoused eventually. I'm not advocating for an involuntary overthrow of the system by a select group.

But you are advocating a centrally planned society...and the lethal-if-necessary enforcement that absolutely requires.

Evolution will embrace freedom, which includes freedom from those that are just sure they know what's best for everyone else. Capitalism, true capitalism, requires no such hubris.

Pass.

Sorry, but 'freedom' is now hate speech. True story.

I don't want you to comment unless you took the time to watch the cartoon. Thanks.

eflatminor ie you are "required" to be directly knowledgeable of the content of the cartoon
before expressing comments on this thread in keeping with the OP author's intent and expectations.

However your point does apply indirectly, that as opposed to 60 years ago, where people
had "freedom" to express ideas in the format of cartoons,
today such cartoons would be seen as "promoting stereotypes" which is part of "hate speech" obstructing freedom.

Here's a real life speech from 1961 that also warns of the downhill direction of govt taking over medical management and health care decisions:

I found this pretty interesting. I found it while browsing. It is an old cartoon that predicts the future of our politics, freedom, etc. Very prophetic. Maybe they should show this cartoon in school. Check it out!

Great find ..

A bunch of white people made a cartoon demonizing brown people. How times have changed.

If you had actually watched it, the snake oil salesman is dark and the ones standing around him are white.

Yes, so the one bad guy is darker skinned, and all the major characters in the cartoon are "predominately white"

In Old School traditions, "darkness" was associated with negative forces and influences,
while "light" represents truth enlightenment and positive "brilliance"

However, in today's age, any reference to dark skin means Blacks, Latino or other "minorities" so these people are downplayed as a class.

In all cultures, not just Europeans, but also Asian, Latino and Black,
the "lighter skin" is associated with Upper cmanagement/owner class
while the "darker skin" is associated with manual laborers outside in the fields.

it's really more about "class" stereotypes and image
but today's culture has made it all about race.
