Ok, let's say your a political strategist helping DeSantis.

To the left, maybe. Of course the Trumpbots will side with the left on this.

But to a lot of folks, he's sane. He may not seem sane, because todays sanity was only just a decade ago was completely insane.
Men now in dresses claiming to have periods and can get pregnant. Entitled middle class blacks claiming they're still oppressed. Violent druggy thugs that can't hardly be prosecuted because of some bogus mental illness. White people being labels racist just because of their skin color.
The whole country has gone insane.

It reminds me of the quote, "Truth is the treason of lies."
In addition to lacking the temperament to be president and being unfit for the Oval Office, DeSantis is comprehensively wrong on the issues.

From immigration and abortion to voting rights and the rights of gay and transgender Americans, DeSantis’ agenda is reckless, irresponsible, and wrong.

You're a democrat voter, aren't you?

Did DeSantis not vote to raise the eligibility age for SS?

Did he not float the idea of a federal sales tax?

I remember the democrats saying the GOP was going to raise the retirement age. But I don't remember any bill that contained it.

A federal sale tax in leu of abolishing the income tax.

Seems DeSantis was in a bill to try to do so...Not that it's such a bad idea to begin with, it just opens you up for the political recrimination.

Name a tax that ever got abolished, over the last 100 years....Beside that, you'd need an amendment to authorize it, and another to abolish the 16th.

The email campaign said that DeSantis voted to raise the retirement age to 70 years old in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and that he voted to change the formula for cost-of-living raises for those three years. The email also pointed to DeSantis’s votes on Medicare, saying that he voted in 2015 and in 2017 to cut the program’s benefits.

That's true. I just haven't actually seen that bill, or read any of the actual texts. These bills are always chopped with some good things and bad. So no matter how you vote, they can always make you out to be the bad guy.

Another thing about bills, is their chances of ever being signed into law. They create a LOT of bills that are just photo op sort of bills, to show how bad the other side is. Knowing full well they'll never make it out of committee, passed the Senate or signed into law.

I can name a few in FL recently. But one the federal level, I can't remember a one.

DeSantis is attempting to appeal to authoritarians by dictating to medicine, education, libraries, private enterprise, people with wombs, etc., etc., etc. in Florida, and he presides over a crappy state.

He can't sell his rabid statism nationally.

The view of one Floridian:

What should he do? Hope Christie runs and hide behind him.

Keep telling yourself that ...

DeSantis is doing what the parents were asking him to do. Keep pornography and gender ideology out of schools. Especially to young children.

This is NOT a bad thing.

That's not what bothers me. It would be better done locally, instead of top down from the state, but whatever. Public education will always be about the majority indoctrinating kids in their own image. That's why my kids steered around it.

The issue I have with DeSantis is his enthusiasm for retaliatory government. Short-sighted voters might get off on him going after Disney, but this is a really bad practice that we shouldn't tolerate it. I'm wondering how his supporters would feel if a Democrat became governor and, as Rubio suggested, went after Chick-fil-A in similar fashion. l'm betting they wouldn't like it.

Government isn't there to beat up on our political opponents. Fuck the culture war.

Yes, some parents hate diversity and lack respect for others.

A politicians pandering to those people is repugnant to everyone who supports equality.

Let's say you're the top guy in DeSantis's campaign. How would you go about getting DeSantis the nomination over Trump and his cancel culture?
What's your strategy?

On camera weirdness and stiffness aside, I think his overall strategy has been the correct one:

* run to Trump's right by being a hardcore anti-woke governor
* ignore the trolls - don't get into an insult war with Trump and his supporters
* avoid wasting unnecessary energy responding to MAGA attacks, but do respond when necessary
* hope Trump's legal woes start to mount up and that a Trump presidency is seen as futile

He really needs that last one. However, if that happens, other candidates that have been on the sidelines will almost certainly join the fray.

He's got like 30 felony charges in NYC. If only one gets a guilty verdict, he's out of the race. Period.

Personally, I think Bragg's charges are all bogus. But what I think doesn't matter one bit.

You call letting children decide their gender is diversity? LMAO..

Trump is going to get more felony charges; the question is, can he delay, delay, delay the trial long enough to become president?

We're in uncharted waters here. I could see Trump's legal team making the argument that he's the front runner (of his party anyway) and that forcing him to deal with a trial is interfering in an election.

Again, candycorn has it right, but accepting the OP's premise as we must since DeSantis announced:

DeSantis has to make up his mind what version of himself he will run as.

Is he Trump-without-the-negatives? That won't sit well with Trumpers. Especially now since so many of Trump's negatives have been proven to be Hillary-funded hoaxes. He or his surrogates would have to be out front talking about Trump's negatives that are based on reality, putting him in a position of running a negative campaign that will help the Dems if Trump wins the nom.

Is he Ron "Donald who?" DeSantis, only talking about himself without reference to or comparison with Trump? That would be the best strategy for the unlikely but definitely possible event that Trump dies or becomes incapacitated during the primary season. It is also the easiest strategy since he wouldn't have to measure his words when talking about Trump. He'll have to practice answering questions about Trump by talking about himself, since the MSM won't ask him anything but quesions about Trump.

Is he the guy who will actually do what Trump promised but did not do? His record of bussing illegals to sanctuary cities makes that a plausible claim. EDIT: So does the list posted by YoursTruly. Easy to imagine President DeSantis ordering the military to build the wall and letting any objections play out in court. That is the strategy that will bring out the worst street brawler in Trump, so DeSantis would have to be ready.

Is he running for president, but really running for VP? That would be the best strategy politically, given his age and inexperience in the executive branch. That would also be the hardest to pull off. Nikki Haley and Tim Scott are far more likely to succeed in that strategy. The GOP cannot keep running white male only tickets and expect to win.
